Using data collected by Axios-Ipsos in the fall of 2020, this report examines the impact of COVID-19 on LGBT people ages 45 and older. The report also explores differences related to race and ethnicity among older LGBT and non-LGBT people.

LGBT refugees escaping violence, discrimination, and abuse in their home countries, often find more of the same upon arrival in Europe.

The story of Pauli Murray, one of the most pivotal figures in the history of struggle for gender equality and racial justice, is told in the new documentary “My Name Is Pauli Murray,” premiering at the Sundance Film Festival. Murray was a trailblazing Black, nonbinary, queer, feminist poet, lawyer, legal scholar and priest who influenced the likes of Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Thurgood Marshall, and is viewed as a hero to many in the trans rights movement. We feature excerpts from “My Name is Pauli Murray,” which features new footage and audio recordings of Murray in their own words, and interviews about Murray with Ginsburg and Bishop Michael Curry, the Presiding Bishop of The Episcopal Church, and speak with the filmmaking team behind the documentary, director Betsy West and producer Julie Cohen. The Pauli Murray Center lifts up the life and legacy of the Rev. Dr. Pauli Murray, a twentieth-century human rights activist, legal scholar, feminist, author, poet, Episcopal priest, labor organizer, and multiracial Black, LGBTQ+ community member. Center programming in history, education, arts, and activism seeks to advance justice and equity.

This article critically looks at the human rights project as a damning three-dimensional metaphor that exposes multiple complexes. It argues that the grand narrative of human rights contains a subtext which depicts an epochal contest pitting savages, on the one hand, against victims and saviors, on the other. The savages-victims-saviors (SVS) construction lays bare some of the hypocrisies of the human rights project and asks human rights thinkers and advocates to become more self-reflective. The piece questions the universality and cultural neutrality of the human rights project. It calls for the construction of a truly universal human rights corpus, one that is multicultural, inclusive, and deeply political.
