ID-Assist
A Google Doc add-on for using AI and NLP to help with instructional design tasks. This is an interesting concept, and I can see the value for things like summaries or course descriptions based on content provided. However, even their provided example has significant problems (weak objectives, low-level multiple choice questions, a truly terrible scenario). It might be worth playing with it to see where it can be useful, like speeding up the process of first drafts or generating ideas.

Role-Play Training – Insights From Clark Aldrich
Role-Play Training – Insights From Clark Aldrich
A lengthy article from Clark Aldrich on how to create Short Sims or branching role-play training. One of the most useful things in this article is the section "7 steps to create an effective role-play," where he breaks down his process for creating branching scenarios with time estimates for each section. While some of this is specific to iSpring, the process is similar to what I teach in my branching scenario course.
Perhaps the perfect way to learn is by doing something worthwhile that lines up with the real world, and very judiciously receiving some friendly guidance when we get stuck.
If you’re running a flight simulator and want your pilots to learn how to land an airplane in a snowstorm, Short Sims can only have introductory benefits. They can teach you some of the strategies.
With practice, you should be able to create an entire role-play in about 40 hours over two weeks. If you are going over that, you’re probably overthinking or over-executing it. Remember that you need to keep it simple.

Secta Labs - Reinventing photography
This service turns other photos into more professional headshots. From discussion in a group where people have used these services, your quality of original images really matters. Some of the results end up with bad uncanny valley problems, weird jewelry and hair, etc.

StudioShot | Premium headshots from anywhere
Another tool for creating headshots from existing photos. The person who shared it said she got 80 images for $30...but only about 10 of them were usable. They aren't probably good enough for hero images on a website, but they might be good enough for social media.

ThingLink: Create unique experiences with interactive images, videos & 360° media
ThingLink: Create unique experiences with interactive images, videos & 360° media

Branching scenario tool for simulations, interactive videos, and more. This has a clear emphasis on both including a range of multimedia plus tracking interaction data.

However, the way they track data is by hosting it themselves, which affects the pricing model. The pricing is $4/user/month–which seems really high to me, considering that’s more than some full-blown LMSs that can host hundreds of courses. They have a minimum of 50 users, which means the minimum cost is $200/month. Even if the tool is great, I think that’s would be a hard sell for most organizations.

Character AI
Character AI
I haven't taken time to play with this yet, but AI chatbots like this feel like a very promising avenue for personalized learning. Many of the simulated conversations that we currently build as branching scenarios could be practiced with chatbots like this. Language learning is another relevant area. This is currently in beta, but looks worth exploring.

Recraft
Recraft
An AI image generating tool for vector art and illustrations. This looks like it would be useful for creating icon or illustration variations on a theme while keeping a consistent color scheme. I also wonder if you could use it to create variations on vector character images for scenarios.

Playground AI
Edit and combine images using AI. Rather than starting from scratch like other AI image tools, with this tool you start with one or more existing images and enhance them with AI. There's a free account with a large daily image limit, but it says the quality will be limited after the first 50 images. Still, that's enough to try how it works.

Respeecher Voice Marketplace
Respeecher Voice Marketplace
AI voice generation is an area where new tools keep being released. This is a voice cloning tool where you can copy an existing voice. This would be useful for making revisions if the original voice isn't available (or just to make changes quickly). You can also change the accent or pitch. Their stated use cases are around prototyping and revisions, not full narration for finished products.

DiBL - Dilemma Based Learning
DiBL - Dilemma Based Learning
An interesting tool designed for interactive questions and scenarios in live training or vILT environments, where learners respond via their devices. The founder says, "You can think of it as a collaborative choose your own adventure - or Twine meets Kahoot :-)." This would be worth reviewing if you had a specific use case in an organization, but the tool is too expensive for freelancers and consultants.

guidde・Magically create video documentation with AI
This might not be as exciting of an AI tool as all the fun image generators, but it looks very practical. Create a screen capture video, then use the AI tools to generate the text explaining each step and add voice over. The tool also creates documentation at the same time. The text looks more accurate than some other tools I have tried, at least in the demo, but I assume in practice it would still require editing. For quick software training and performance support, this looks useful.

HOME | Pika Labs
Text to video tool. This works like Midjourney where you add text prompts in a Discord channel on the Pika Labs server. You can use either a text prompt by itself or provide a starting image to animate. This still feels like a tool in beta to me, and the results often have noticeable AI weirdness in them. But, maybe you could use this for a snippet of B roll or to add slight animation to an existing image.

Since I've been experimenting with AI for images for my blog already, this looks like a tool worth testing out. Consensus: AI Search Engine for Research
Consensus: AI Search Engine for Research
Curious about the research on a particular topic? Consensus searches research and provides summaries. If you ask a yes/no question on a well-researched topic, it will provide you with a color-coded yes/no/maybe summary. This doesn't work as well if there isn't much research on a particular topic (as is the case for a lot of L&D questions), but it's a good way to both get a quick glance at the research and to find sources so you can dig deeper on your own.
