Genetic determinants of resistance to antimicrobial therapeutics are rare in publicly available Clostridioides difficile genome sequences - PubMed
Genetic determinants of resistance to antimicrobial therapeutics are rare in publicly available Clostridioides difficile genome sequences - PubMed
Genomic data suggested that resistance to therapeutic antimicrobial drugs is rare in C. difficile. Public antimicrobial resistance marker databases were not equipped to detect most of the genetic determinants relevant to antibiotic therapy of CDI.

Antibiotic-induced dysbiosis is a major risk factor for Clostridioides difficile infection (CDI), and fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) is recommended for treating CDI. However, the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. Here, we show that Tritrichomonas musculis (T.mu), an integral member of th …

Patients with iCDI who are older, on hemodialysis, or had recent hospitalization or nitrofurantoin use had increased risk of mrCDI and may benefit from early use of adjunctive therapy to prevent mrCDI. If confirmed, these findings could aid in clinical decision making and interventional study design …

A new toxin toolkit for C. diff
Clostridioides difficile (C. diff) is a leading cause of diarrhea and healthcare-associated infections in the United States and recognized as an urgent threat by the Centers for Disease Control. Virulence of C. diff infections is believed to rely primarily on the production of two toxins: TcdA and TcdB. TcdA and TcdB are large homologous proteins...

Identification of a new family of peptidoglycan transpeptidases reveals atypical crosslinking is essential for viability in Clostridioides difficile - PubMed
Clostridioides difficile , the leading cause of antibiotic-associated diarrhea, relies primarily on 3-3 crosslinks created by L,D-transpeptidases (LDTs) to fortify its peptidoglycan (PG) cell wall. This is unusual, as in most bacteria the vast majority of PG crosslinks are 4-3 crosslinks, whi …
