Towards stage specific treatments: effects of duration of illness on therapeutic response to adjunctive treatment with N-acetyl cysteine in schizophrenia. Prog Neuropsychopharmacol Biol Psychiatry. 2015;3(57):69-75. DesignA double-blind, placebo-controlled trial to investigate whether duration of illness was a factor in modulating the response to N-acetylcysteine (NAC). ParticipantsThe study included 121 participants who were randomized to receive placebo (n=62) or N-acetylcysteine (NAC; n=59) for 24 weeks.

PAD4 has been observed in cancers but its role was unclear. An Oxford University team have found that PAD4 citrullinates protein E2F-1, which causes it to form a protein complex with BRD4 that drives expression of inflammatory genes.

Check out the following studies: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/9230243-attenuation-of-influenza-like-symptomatology-and-improvement-of-cell-mediated-immunity-with-long-term-n-acetylcysteine-treatment/ https://jcbmr.com/index.php/jcbmr/article/view/13/28 https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/19732754-n-acetyl-l-cysteine-nac-inhibits-virus-replication-and-expression-of-pro-inflammatory-molecules-in-a549-cells-infected-with-highly-pathogenic-h5n1-influenza-a-virus/ One of NAC’s primary functions is to produce a substance known as glutathione. Glutathione is your liver and your body's master antioxidant. So think of it like this. Your liver needs glutathione to process the chemicals, the exposures to toxins, the day to day wear and tear that your body is under your liver needs. When you're low in glutathione, your toxicity bucket can fill up much, much faster, making you more susceptible to environmental toxins and other environmental exposures to chemicals, et cetera. Thus lending toward creating or contributing to making you sick over time. One of the other functions of an NAC is it's known as a mucolytic. What does that mean? That means it breaks down or breaks apart mucus. One of the secondary complications of a viral infection and whether it's influenza or Corona or any other type of virus is what's called an upper respiratory infection. So it can get into the respiratory tract, into the lungs, it can get into the sinus cavity. And what happens with an infection is your body's produces a lot more mucus. You can become congested. That mucus increases the thickness, makes it harder to breathe. This is why people get respiratory wheezing or, or kind of pressure because that mucus is building up inside the inside the lung tissue or inside the sinus is. So what NAC can do. And if you've ever had chronic congestion, chronic sinus issues, chronic chest congestion, and used supplements that help break this down. Some supplements or I have a product called ultra sinus support, for example, and one of the main ingredients in it is N-Acetylcysteine. And this is the reason why, because it breaks down mucus and helps you breathe easier. So again, it's an FDA approved agent to treat a aggressive mucus secretion coming from the sinuses or the lungs. Now additionally, when somebody overdoses on Tylenol or acetaminophen they use NAC to stop that toxicity from doing further damage. Now how does it function as an agent for improving viral infection outcomes? Research suggests that it reduces viral replication. Glutathione or N-Acetylcysteine cannot stop you from getting a viral infection. I want to be very clear there. That's not what it does. But what it does is in essence if you've been infected by influenza virus, what it can actually do is it can reduce viral replication. But the research that's been done on NAC also shows that not only does it help prevent viral replication, but also if somebody gets sick, it reduces the severity of symptoms of their illness. IIt also reduces the length of time of the illness. And it's also been shown to reduce recurring illness. So N-Acetylcysteine reduces the severity of the symptoms. It can reduce the length of time that somebody actually spends being sick and it can reduce the risk of them repeat infection. ** The products, supplements, vitamins, minerals, herbs, etc mentioned in these videos and article are not intended to mitigate, prevent, treat, diagnose, or cure COVID-19 in people. Click here to subscribe - https://www.glutenfreesociety.org/wxrn My favorite L-Glutamine Supplement - https://bit.ly/2BcHmOw The Ultimate Crash Course On Glutamine What is L-Glutamine? It is the most abundant amino acid in the body. This amino acid is extremely important for several reasons...especially if you are trying to recover from leaky gut, autoimmune problems, or struggling to put more lean muscle on. There are many benefits . Here are 7 reasons why you might consider using L-Glutamine as a supplement to support your health. 1. L Glutamine is responsible for stimulating an antibody called secretory IgA. This antibody is made by your gut, and it helps the immune system by binding on to toxic compounds and preventing them from causing damage to your gut wall. In essence it helps defend you from a leaky gut situation. 2. L-Glutamine is the primary fuel source for the cells of the small intestine. Most cells in your body generate their main energy source from glucose or ketones. Not your small intestine. Your small intestine uses L-glutamine as it's primary fuel source. Why is this important? The cells of the intestine are constantly turning over. The cells in your gut have a life cycle of two days. For your gut function to be optimized, the cells need ample fuel (L-glutamine) to reproduce, heal, and repair themselves. 3. Just like your small intestines, your lymphocytes (immune cells) require L-glutamine as a primary fuel source. Low levels can lead to a depletion of immune cells and their ability to protect you adequately. 4. L-glutamine is necessary for your body to be able to produce Glutathione. This compound is what your liver uses to help your body detoxify. No glutamine = poor detoxification capacity. 5. L-glutamine is the primary amino acid in your muscle tissue. One of the reasons people with chronic inflammation lose their muscle mass has to do with the body breaking down muscle to get to glutamine in an effort to help fuel the immune cells. 6. L-glutamine deficiency can make it hard to recover from exercise. The delayed muscle soreness after a work out is in part due to the loss of glutamine from the muscle. Supplementing has been shown to enhance recovery and minimize soreness post workouts. 7. Cancer? L-glutamine has been shown to minimize the side effects of chemo and radiation therapies. Research also shows that L-glutamine beneficially impacts the immune system and supports the killing of cancer cells. You should also be aware of the side effects of glutamine in doses that are too high. - Headaches - Anxiety - Nausea - Diarrhea can all be negative side effects of taking glutamine. Withholding amino acid depletes blood stem cells -- ScienceDaily
A dietary approach to depleting blood stem cells may make it possible to conduct bone marrow transplantations without the use of chemotherapy or radiation therapy, according to researchers. The discovery may also become a new way to treat certain cancers without chemo or radiation, which can cause severe side effects.
