Real-World Clinical Experience With Idebenone in the Treatme... Journal of Neuro-Ophthalmology
Methods: Open-label, multicenter, retrospective, noncontrolled analysis of long-term visual acuity and safety in 111 LHON patients treated with idebenone (900 mg/day) in an expanded access program. Eligible patients had a confirmed mitochondrial DNA mutation and had experienced the onset of symptoms (most recent eye) within 1 year before enrollment. Data on visual acuity and adverse events were collected as per normal clinical practice. Efficacy was assessed as the proportion of patients with either a clinically relevant recovery (CRR) or a clinically relevant stabilization (CRS) of visual acuity. In the case of CRR, time to and magnitude of recovery over the course of time were also assessed. Results: At time of analysis, 87 patients had provided longitudinal efficacy data. Average treatment duration was 25.6 months. CRR was observed in 46.0% of patients. Analysis of treatment effect by duration showed that the proportion of patients with recovery and the magnitude of recovery increased with treatment duration. Average gain in best-corrected visual acuity for responders was 0.72 logarithm of the minimal angle of resolution (logMAR), equivalent to more than 7 lines on the Early Treatment Diabetic Retinopathy Study (ETDRS) chart. Furthermore, 50% of patients who had a visual acuity below 1.0 logMAR in at least one eye at initiation of treatment successfully maintained their vision below this threshold by last observation. Idebenone was well tolerated, with most adverse events classified as minor. Conclusions: These data demonstrate the benefit of idebenone treatment in recovering lost vision and maintaining good residual vision in a real-world setting. Together, these findings indicate that idebenone treatment should be initiated early and be maintained more than 24 months to maximize efficacy. Safety results were consistent with the known safety profile of idebenone....

Click here to subscribe - https://www.glutenfreesociety.org/wxrn Gluten is the most well documented cause of autoimmune disease in medical research. In addition, celiac disease increases a person’s susceptibility to multiple forms of autoimmune disease. The coexistence of celiac disease and other autoimmune diseases have been shown in many studies. There are also a variety of autoimmune diseases directly related to gluten exposure that can affect the eyes. For example, dry eye syndrome has been reported in gluten related autoimmune disorders such as Sjogren’s syndrome, rheumatoid arthritis (RA), and scleroderma. Approximately 25 percent of patients with RA will have ocular manifestations. These may include keratoconjunctivitis sicca (dry eye, as mentioned previously), scleritis, episcleritis, keratitis, peripheral corneal ulceration. Less commonly, they can also include choroiditis, retinal vasculitis, episcleral nodules, retinal detachments, and macular edema. Exophthalmos, or bulging eye occurs in approximately half of patients with thyroid disease – both hypothyroid or Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, and hyperthyroid or Graves disease. Thyroid disease is strongly linked with gluten ingestion and celiac disease. Finally, there is a suspected link between celiac disease and lupus. Ocular disease occurs in 20 percent of patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). External ocular manifestations include keratoconjunctivitis sicca, conjunctivitis, uveitis, episcleritis, scleritis, keratitis, and a discoid lupus rash over the eyelids that is often confused with blepharitis. Considerable amounts of some chemicals, such as sodium citrate, are allowed to add to the weight of the meat. The use of ozone and hydrogen peroxide to deodorize meat causes instantaneous oxidative changes, including lipid peroxidation and protein carbonyl formation, as well as increasing water retention.

Exploring the genetic basis of congenital cataracts in two families identifies a molecule, lanosterol, which prevents intracellular protein aggregation of various cataract-causing mutant crystallins, and which can reduce cataract severity and increase lens transparency in vivo in dogs.

Cataract Surgery What to Know - YouTube
Cataract Surgery What to Know - YouTube
According to the World Health Organization, about 42% of all blindness is due to cataracts. A cataract forms when the lens behind the colored part of your eye becomes cloudy. Degradation of eye tissue can reduce the clarity of images when the tissue clumps together. Over time, the thickness of the clumped tissue increases and can lead to partial or complete blindness. While there are several types of cataracts, each type shares many of the same causes. I've been receiving a lot of questions about cataracts, and the three big questions I will address today are: When is it time to do cataract surgery? What is the best lens to put in your eye? What can you do post-surgically to improve your eye health? 🔴SUBSCRIBE to my channel for more holistic approaches to eye health!🔴 https://www.youtube.com/sberneod To learn more about how you may address the causative factors of Cataracts go to: https://www.drsamberne.com Have questions?
