Comparison of efficacy of trehalose-based eye drops versus topical 0.1% Hyaluronic Acid for management of clinically significant dry eye using non-invasive investigational modalities SpringerLink
Purpose To compare the efficacy of trehalose-HA eye drops versus 0.1% hyaluronic acid for the treatment of dry eye. Methods This prospective, comparative, contralateral eye study included sixty eligible patients (mean age 44.13 ± 14.53 years). Patients having a SPEED questionnaire score of 16 or above, objective scatter index (OSI) > 1 and non-invasive tear break up time (NIBUT) of 10 s or less were included in the study. Eyes were randomized to receive 0.1% hyaluronic acid (HA) in one eye and trehalose-HA eye drops in the contralateral eye. At baseline, 1- and 3-month follow-ups, OSI, NIBUT, MG loss, tear meniscus height (TMH) and tear film osmolarity (TFO) were evaluated using non-invasive modalities Results There was a statistically significant improvement in NIBUT, TMH, OSI, SPEED questionnaire score in the trehalose-HA compared to the 0.1% HA group at both 1- and 3-month visits (p

Reduce Your RX, Improve Eyesight - YouTube
According to the American Optometric Association, myopia affects nearly 30 percent of the U.S. population. The behavioral adaptation that people make in nearsightedness is that they pull the visual world in and they blur out the distance. It’s a way to protect themselves to something is out of control in their environment.
For most people with this eye condition, eyeglasses are the primary choice for correction.
In this video, I will explain what happens when your RX is reduced and a combination of glasses and/or contact lenses is implemented.

Activation of the molecular chaperone, sigma 1 receptor, preserves con (...)
The role of sigma 1 receptor (Sig1R) in rescuing cone photoreceptor function was investigated in Pde6β rd10 ( rd10 ) mice, a model of severe retinal degeneration. Sig1R, a putative molecular chaperone, is implicated in several human neurodegenerative diseases. We administered (+)-pentazocine, a high-affinity Sig1R ligand, to rd10 mice, which lose rod and subsequently cone photoreceptor cells (PRC) within the first few weeks of life, rendering them completely blind. Regular administration of (+)-pentazocine rescued cone PRC responses, which were markedly preserved and were similar to those in wild-type mice. To our knowledge, this is the first demonstration of significant preservation of retinal function as a consequence of Sig1R activation. The data are highly relevant to potential therapeutic interventions in human retinal disease.

Vision loss due to glaucoma or optic nerve damage is generally considered irreversible. Now a new prospective, randomized, multi-center clinical trial demonstrates significant vision improvement in partially blind patients after 10 days of noninvasive, transorbital alternating current stimulation. In addition to activation of their residual vision, patients also experienced improvement in vision-related quality of life such as acuity, reading, mobility or orientation.

The Role of Nutrition in Eye Health - YouTube

Many of these nutrients have been studied with respect supporting eye health and preventing vision decline. Nutrition has gained tremendous respect thanks to the ability of these key nutrients to support long-term eye health. Interestingly, over time, our food system has become flooded with processed foods devoid of nutrients, and our produce has become less nutrient dense thanks to commercial farming practices. While food was once enough for healthy eyes and vision, it is now more difficult to achieve eye health while aging without attention to these key nutrients. Conditions like gluten sensitivity and celiac that can cause malabsorption even further exacerbate the need for attention to nutrition and supplementation in order to support long-term eye health and vision.
One study enrolled 3,640 patients with AMD and declining visual acuity to administer high-dose vitamins C and E, beta carotene, and zinc supplements. Comparison with the placebo group demonstrated a statistically significant odds reduction for the development of advanced AMD by supplementing with the antioxidants plus zinc. The study followed these patients for up to nine years.
Another study evaluated the effect of multivitamin supplements and vitamin E on patients at risk of nuclear opacification. In regular users of multivitamin supplements, the risk of nuclear opacification was reduced by one third. In regular users of vitamin E supplements and persons with higher plasma levels of vitamin E, the risk was reduced by approximately half.
Another large, randomized study found that women taking B vitamins (including folate and vitamin B12) reduced their risk of early macular degeneration by more than a third after seven years.

Treatment of Ocular Surface Squamous Neoplasia With Topical... Cornea
raphs to document changes over time with A. vera-based topical treatment. Results: The patient refused biopsy of her lesion and traditional treatments and, instead, initiated using A. vera eye drops 3 times daily. At follow-up visits, the lesion was noted to regress until it finally resolved 3 months after commencing treatment. No additional topical medications were used, and she has remained tumor free for 6 years. Conclusions: Ongoing research is warranted because A. vera may represent a new therapeutic class of medications for OSSN treatment....

Effect of Hyaluronic AcidTrehalose in Two Different Formulations on Signs and Symptoms in Patients with Moderate to Severe Dry Eye Disease
Purpose. This randomized, observer-masked, crossover study investigated the effect of two hyaluronic acid/trehalose-based containing formulations, with different physical properties, on the signs and symptoms in patients with moderate to severe dry eye disease (DED). Methods. In one group, patients received a mixture of sodium hyaluronate and trehalose (HT, Thealoz Duo®) for use during the day. In the other group, patients received a more viscous formulation consisting of hyaluronic acid, trehalose, and carbomer (HTC-gel, Thealoz Duo Gel) to use pro re nata. Both groups used HTC-gel before going to bed. Clinical standard tests for DED were performed at the beginning and end of each one-week period. Further, patient satisfaction including quality of sleep was assessed using a visual analogue scale. Results. Corneal fluorescein and conjunctival lissamine green staining scores decreased, and tear breakup time (BUT) increased for both groups ( each). Mean instillation frequency was 3.1 ± 2.6 drops/day when using HT and 1.9 ± 2.2 drops/day when using HTC-gel (). A significant improvement in the quality of sleep was observed with both treatments (). Conclusions. Our results show improvement in signs and symptoms of DED in both groups. While instillation of HTC-gel resulted in a lower instillation frequency, both formulations of trehalose showed good clinical efficacy. This trial is registered with NCT02980913.
