Functional Role of Carbohydrate Residues in Human Immunoglobulin G and (...)
Therapeutic monoclonal antibodies (TMA) provide an important means for treating diseases that were previously considered untreatable. Currently more than 40 full-size TMAs created primarily based on immunoglobulin G1 are widely used for treating various illnesses. Glycosylation of TMA is among other …

GlycoNet - Rare Genetic Diseases - YouTube
Glycomics is the study of carbohydrates or sugars in biological systems. Learn how glycomics research at GlycoNet is helping to better understand rare genetic diseases which impacts more than 600 million people worldwide. Glycomics presents an opportunity to develop novel treatments for rare genetic diseases that arise from deficiencies in sugar metabolism, such as Gaucher’s disease and Fabry’s disease. Understanding the biochemical and molecular basis of single gene disorders has led to therapeutic strategies for rare diseases and a realization that the development of many common disorders involves altered glycosylation pathways. Developing therapies for rare diseases thus potentially impacts common disorders. The Canadian Glycomics Network (GlycoNet) aims to use the study of carbohydrates to improve human health. Glycosylation Changes in Cancer - Essentials of Glycobiology - NCBI Bo (...)
Altered glycosylation is a universal feature of cancer cells, and certain glycan structures are well-known markers for tumor progression. This chapter discusses some glycan biosynthetic pathways that are frequently altered in cancer cells, the correlation between altered glycosylation and clinical prognosis, the genetic basis of some of these changes, and in vitro and in vivo studies that indicate the pathological importance of these pathways.

Intracellular lectins are involved in quality control of glycoproteins (...)
Glycoprotein quality control is categorized into three kinds of reactions; the folding of nascent glycoproteins, ER-associated degradation of misfolded or unassembled glycoproteins, and transport and sorting of correctly folded glycoproteins. In all three processes, N-glycans on the glycoproteins ar …

Jay Ingram - The Potential of Glycomics - YouTube
On April 10, 2015, the Canadian Glycomics Network (GlycoNet), a national network, officially launched. A celebration was held at the University of Alberta, with a program emceed by Jay Ingram, a science broadcaster and past host of Discovery Channel's Daily Planet and CBC's Quirks and Quarks. Glycomics is the study of sugars in biological processes. In this video, Jay Ingram explains the way in which glycomics is central to everyday life, and describes its potential as an emerging scientific field. camera & edit: http://www.levroi.nl | event information www.TEDxRoermond.nl "These sugars are the missing link in our food and maybe even the missing link in our medicine." Geiske de Ruig explains us about a new science: Glycobiology, the science of sugars. You musn't confuse these essential sugars with the sugars you put in your coffee or tea. These essential sugars are important for cells to communication with each other. Geiske even advocates the relation of our modern diet and shortage of sugars with the rapid growth of health issues. She will convince you to take control over your own health by adjusting your diet. Everyone can start today! About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.
