What's causing your neuropathy Watch out for these potential environmental exposures! - YouTube
Click here to subscribe - https://www.glutenfreesociety.org/wxrn Neuropathy. What does that really mean? It’s a fancy medical term that means nerve disease or nerve damage. Neuropathies that can be centralized, meaning coming from your brain or spinal cord. Then you have what are called peripheral neuropathies. These are when the symptoms manifest outside of the brain, your spinal cord, so more in your hands, for example, or in your feet or in your legs, numbness, tingling, burning pain, those types of symptoms that occur in the periphery. There are a number of different reasons why we might see somebody developing a or a nerve damage type of problem. Some of those causes can be physical in nature. For example, a herniated disc can put pressure on a nerve causing a lot of compression that leads to nerve damage and numbness, tingling, loss of motor control or loss of muscle or weakness. So this is a physical neuropathy, meaning there's a physical damage that is occupying space. It's putting pressure, compressing the nerve, and that can happen as a result of a disc. Then you can also have neuropathies as a result of other forms of trauma. Sometimes people get into car accidents and they damage the scalene muscles, the muscles in the neck or the tissues deepen the neck or they'll stretch the plexus of nerves in the neck and shoulder called the brachial plexus. And those types of traumatic damages can also cause a neuropathy. You might come across some environmental exposures that can actually create nerve damage. An example of an environmental exposure would be from pesticides. Organophosphates as a class of pesticides are notorious and very well documented in medical literature to create nerve damage and nerve problems. Heavy metals can also create or contribute to neuropathy. Many of you have probably heard of mercury toxicity. Mercury is a known neurotoxin. We know it can create damage. We also know from research on dental amalgam that if you had your fillings done longer ago than 20 years, the likelihood that you have silver amalgams in your mouth that contain a form of mercury is very, very high. So aside from vaccines and aside from amalgams, some people are eating high quantities of fish and, and and getting mercury exposure from bigger, larger fish because of contamination in some of the waters. Mercury, arsenic, lead, and thallium. These are some of the main metals really that we can see create a neurological type of damage that causes neuropathy, numbness, tingling, burning pain, changes in motor strength. Losing strength in your hands or losing strength in your arms or legs, weakness, those are signs of the potential for neuropathy. New doubts on Zika as cause of microcephaly -- ScienceDaily
Brazil's microcephaly epidemic continues to pose a mystery -- if Zika is the culprit, why are there no similar epidemics in other countries also hit hard by the virus? In Brazil, the microcephaly rate soared with more than 1,500 confirmed cases. But in Colombia, a recent study of nearly 12,000 pregnant women infected with Zika found zero microcephaly cases. If Zika is to blame for microcephaly, where are the missing cases?

Nutritional Deficiencies found in Fibromyalgia - YouTube
Nutritional Deficiencies found in Fibromyalgia - YouTube
Click here to subscribe - https://www.glutenfreesociety.org/wxrn Several observational studies have evaluated the nutritional status of patients with chronic musculoskeletal pain like that in fibromyalgia by comparing their dietary patterns with the dietary patterns of healthy, pain-free people or with nutritional reference values. A systematic review of 12 research papers found that those experiencing chronic pain were consistently low in many of the same nutritional deficiencies that are commonly found in celiac disease patients: Magnesium – Magnesium inhibits certain nerve receptors, such as N-methyl-D-aspartate, which may be a cause of fibromyalgia pain. Low levels of magnesium are associated with low-grade chronic systemic inflammation and chronic sleep deprivation, a common complaint in fibromyalgia patients. B Vitamins – B-complex vitamins act as coenzymes in energy metabolism and low levels have been identified in fibromyalgia patients. It’s not surprising, as low energy and fatigue are common symptoms of the disease. CoQ10 – CoQ10 increases cellular ATP (energy) production. Therefore, research has suggested their supplementation could help improve fatigue and other symptoms that are common in fibromyalgia. Vitamin D – A meta-analysis revealed credible evidence that vitamin D can be a determinant factor for fibromyalgia. Almost all of the studies reviewed found lower levels of vitamin D among fibromyalgia patients than the control groups. Zinc – Zinc deficiency may contribute to the dysfunction of natural killer cells and cell-mediated immune function which can play a role in the symptoms of fibromyalgia. Selenium – Selenium deficiency has been related to skeletal muscle disorders, due to an amplified prostaglandin synthesis and many times has been found to be lower in patients with fibromyalgia than control groups. Psychedelics Treating Addiction, Depression and Anxiety with Dr. Roland Griffiths - YouTube
Psychedelics Treating Addiction, Depression and Anxiety with Dr. Roland Griffiths - YouTube
Psychedelics were the subject of serious medical research in the 1940s to the 1960s, when many scientists believed some of the mind-bending compounds held tremendous therapeutic promise for treating a number of conditions including severe mental health problems and alcohol addiction. By the mid-60s, research into psychedelics was shut down for decades. After the blackout ended, the doctor we have on the podcast today was among the first to initiate a new series of studies on psilocybin—the psychoactive compound in “magic” mushrooms. On today’s Broken Brain Podcast, our host, Dhru, talks to Dr. Roland Griffiths, a Professor in the Departments of Psychiatry and Neurosciences at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He has conducted extensive research with sedative-hypnotics, caffeine, and novel mood-altering drugs. In 1999, he initiated a research program at Johns Hopkins investigating the effects of the classic hallucinogen psilocybin that includes studies of psilocybin-occasioned mystical-type experiences in healthy volunteers, psilocybin-facilitated treatment of psychological distress in cancer patients, psilocybin-facilitated treatment of cigarette smoking cessation, psilocybin effects in beginning and long-term meditators, and psilocybin effects in religious leaders. In this episode, Dhru and Dr. Griffiths talk about his extensive research with psilocybin in the treatment of psychological distress in cancer patients and cigarette smoking cessation. They discuss the connection between psilocybin, spirituality, and consciousness. They also talk about psychedelics and their potential for treating conditions ranging from drug and alcohol dependence to depression and post-traumatic stress disorder. In this episode, we dive into: - The connection between psychedelics, spirituality, and consciousness (7:48) - The history of psychedelic research (8:28) - The reintroduction of psychedelic research by Dr. Roland Griffiths and others (12:27) - Why research participants rated their psychedelic experience as one of their most meaningful (16:36) - What is happening in the brain when using psychedelics (23:39) - How psychedelics can help us understand altered states of consciousness (29:09) - The therapeutic benefits of psilocybin for the treatment of addiction (40:16) - How a single dose of psilocybin substantially diminished depression and anxiety in cancer patients (44:52) - The future of psychedelics (48:07) - The downside and risks of psychedelics (56:14) - Learn more about Dr. Roland Griffiths and his work (1:00:24) For more on Dr. Roland Griffiths and his research on psychedelics check out his website https://hopkinspsychedelic.org.
