A+ is a design and technology studio that creates type. Putting thoughts into words is at the heart of our humanity. Idea into language. Language into form. We approach our work with joy, empathy, and romance, and we’re honored to play a small part in the fabric of our alphabet.

By designers for designers-Formerly Known is a Los Angeles-based type foundry founded by Paul Hutchison and Ross Burwell of Hype Type Studio®. Each typeface within our catalogue was developed to fill a hole in our studio design work, and that unique perspective fuels the direction for everything we produce as a foundry. We draw inspiration from experimental approaches, constantly exploring new techniques and formats to challenge the standards of type design.

Smuss Type Kiosk is a collaborative practice to explore alphabets, letters, and typographic concepts. Our typefaces are the results of ideas and investigations from former projects. The kiosk is continuously evolving, refining the existing menu items and new ones.

Reset is an independent type studio from Montevideo, Uruguay. Our strength is teamwork and close collaboration. We work together to enhance our projects and build contemporary, original and useful typefaces developed with great attention to detail and joy. With more than 10 years of experience, our team aims to provide the best solution for our clients, making them part of our creative process. We work on expanding our type catalog while offering custom type services.

D0UBLE ZER0 is a french type foundry founded in 2022 by Malou Verlomme. Our fonts are made with love and crafted to the highest quality. We are totally independent and this website is the sole distributor of our fonts and products.

Cicero is a character drawing workshop offered to graphic design students at ESAD Valence, built around the small collection of wooden typefaces in the school's letterpress printing workshop. The different sets of characters, mostly incomplete and damaged, were catalogued, measured, and identified as far as possible. A series of prints of the available characters then served as a starting point for the design of digital characters, which in turn served as models for digital cutting tests. The long-term goals are to be able to rehabilitate these characters and produce new ones, and to keep the letterpress printing workshop alive. The fonts listed on this site are available for download 'as is' (in .otf, .woff and .woff2 formats) under a free license (SIL Open Font License) on their respective pages. They will be updated as we progress. A specimen in .pdf format is available here (last updated October 2023).

Lokal Container focuses on typography and was initiated by the youth from Bandung-Indonesia. With good attitude, deep understanding, and diverse perspective in this area, our mission is to bring typography closer local scene that is also engaged in creative department such as institutions, organizations, designers, artists, studios, nor does it exclude people in other fields It’s not about our anxiety how people judge the position of typography, in other words, this is our dedication to participate and bring typography as a part of the local youth movement and spreading our passion worldwide.

Labor & Wait is a digital type foundry based in the Hudson River Valley, in New York State. We are the publisher of the fonts released under the Constellation banner: Aero, Apex, Brooklyn, Cassiopeia, Copernicus, Cosmica, and Polaris. These types were previously available exclusively via vllg.com, which we ran from 2005-23. We design custom type and typography as bspk, working with esteemed colleagues and clients such as 2x4, ADP, American Museum of Natural History, Mary Ellen Carroll, Cooper Hewitt: Smithsonian Design Museum, Havas, Maharam, Pentagram Design, City of Seattle, Snickers, and Syracuse University, amongst others. In September 2023, we closed the doors of vllg.com after 18 years. We are very proud of the work we did to bring the work of a supremely talented group of young designers to the wider world in the early days of e-commerce. With Labor & Wait, we are focusing on one of our passions: designing original types for publication. This pursuit sits alongside our custom type practice, and the two inform and influence each other. Our work extends to the creation of novel forms, utilization of software advances, and revivification of historical models. We look forward to diffusing more and varied projects, including singles and remixes.

Blackletra is a digital type foundry run by Brazilian type designer Daniel Sabino, currently based in São Paulo. Established in 2012, the foundry develops custom and retail typefaces as well as lettering and logotypes. The company’s typefaces combines historical interest with calligraphic influences and sometimes unusual ideas. Daniel Sabino’s first typeface, Karol, was awarded the Certificate of Excellence from the New York Type Directors Club in 2013. Two years later, Haltrix received the same accolade. Blackletra’s work has also been recognized by LAD Awards, Bienal Tipos Latinos, Red Dot Award, Brasil Design Awards, Premios Laus, Morisawa and Bienal da ADG.

Marmite Defontes is a digital type foundry founded by Guillaume Berry. The font catalogue focuses on display typefaces: letters, symbols and glyphs families that have a strong visual impact and are expressive. Marmite Defontes licenses are only available through this website. A key foundational principle for the foundry is ‘serious fun’ (like the motto of the Japanese video game company Natsume). AllCaps is a design practice dedicated to publishing typefaces. Our work takes shape through a collaborative process informed by research, while a connection to visual culture and technology ensures our characters stay current. Components of the collective’s output have been honoured by the Swiss Design Awards, Morisawa Type Design Competition and the Brno Biennale Award. The group is formally trained in both type and graphic design. AllCaps demonstrates its commitment to these disciplines through an engagement in design education by leading workshops in design schools around the world.

HAL Typefaces is an independent vendor for digital fonts and bespoke typographic solutions. The platform is operated by Studio HanLi, a Berlin-based setup for graphic design and typography. The detailed production of custom typefaces is an integral part of the studio’s approach and research. Type is developed for and alongside specific projects, which offer a real-time playground for continuous testing and utilisation. Graphic design influences type design and vice versa: the typefaces grow, evolve and mature, informed by a constructive and tangible practice.
