Cognitive Slowing, Dysfunction in Verbal Working Memory, Divided Attention and Response Inhibition in Post COVID-19 Condition in Young Adults
Cognitive Slowing, Dysfunction in Verbal Working Memory, Divided Attention and Response Inhibition in Post COVID-19 Condition in Young Adults

The present study revealed that in YOUNG adults, university students, without other comorbidities, there can be significant long-lasting cognitive impairments TWO YEARS after COVID-19 infection."

➡️"Specifically, verbal working memory was significantly impaired, and a lower performance was detected in divided attention and response inhibition.”

Even mild Covid changes children’s brains.

“We speculate that viral-triggered neuroinflammation and immune response contribute to neurotoxic damage in brain regions involved in cognitive processing, ultimately resulting in alterations in cortical morphology and glymphatic function.”

New neuroscience research shows COVID-19 leaves mark on young adult brains
“A new study published in Brain, Behavior, and Immunity has found that young adults who have recovered from COVID-19 show distinct patterns of brain activity during cognitive tasks, even if they perform normally on those tasks. These brain activity changes are similar to those seen in much older adults and are particularly pronounced in individuals reporting ‘brain fog.’”

Brain effects of mild COVID-19 in healthy young adults: A pilot study
Brain effects of mild COVID-19 in healthy young adults: A pilot study
“Our pilot data suggests that mild COVID-19 may result in brain pathology and impact neurocognitive function in younger adults in a manner parallel to prior findings in older individuals. Though findings may not generalize to other SARS-CoV-2 variants, larger longitudinal studies of mild COVID-19 should be undertaken to understand the potential clinical implications of these findings over the longer term.”
