Distinguishing features of long COVID identified through immune profiling
“Post-acute infection syndromes may develop after acute viral disease1. Infection with SARS-CoV-2 can result in the development of a post-acute infection syndrome known as long COVID. Individuals with long COVID frequently report unremitting fatigue, post-exertional malaise, and a variety of cognitive and autonomic dysfunctions2,3,4. However, the biological processes that are associated with the development and persistence of these symptoms are unclear. Here 275 individuals with or without long COVID were enrolled in a cross-sectional study that included multidimensional immune phenotyping and unbiased machine learning methods to identify biological features associated with long COVID.”

Actor Tilda Swinton was unable to get out of bed for three weeks due to a SARS-CoV-2 infection.
“I was coughing like an old gentleman who smoked a pipe for 70 years, and had nasty vertigo,” Tilda said. “... the worst thing is how it affected my brain.”
To all the community I have some important news (not to my condition unfortunately):
“Video art pieces name:
‘Trapped in Body and Time: Living the Reality of Severe ME/CFS and Long COVID’
This exhibition is especially meaningful because The Holy Art Gallery has a strong reputation and significant reach on social media, which means this piece has the potential to bring much-needed visibility to severe ME/CFS and Long COVID. I hope it helps amplify our voices.”
‘I was in denial about it’: actor Matt McGorry on having long Covid
“The science is really clear getting Covid over & over again is not good for anyone. It feels like where the climate movement was 10 years ago, where scientists were saying things & people were not really listening.”
Frontiers | A blood-based mRNA signature distinguishes people with Long COVID from recovered individuals
“Seventy genes were identified as significantly up- or down-regulated in Long COVID samples, and the vast majority were downregulated. The most significantly up- or downregulated genes fell into two main categories, either associated with cell survival or with inflammation. This included genes such as ICOS (FDR p = 0.024) and S1PR1 (FDR p = 0.019) that were both up-regulated, indicating that a pro-inflammatory state is sustained in Long COVID PBMCs compared with COVID recovered PBMCs”
Matt McGorry Shares How Long COVID-19 Has ‘Massively Impacted’ His Life
“don’t share this to scare people, but [because] I now recognize that I was living in denial [because] of how badly I wanted COVID to be over," he continued. "I hope that you can learn from my experience."
"People said that AIDS was psychosomatic. This is the same thing you hear about COVID and Long COVID. It's shocking to hear people repeat this

Interventions for the management of long covid (post-covid condition): living systematic review
No drug, diet, or device intervention has supportive evidence for efficacy. CBT, rehab provided some relief of symptoms (moderate certainty).
We're still in desperate need for a validated treatment
Moderate certainty evidence suggests that CBT and physical and mental health rehabilitation probably improve symptoms of long covid.
I developed long covid & my dad died after our covid infection JUST LAST YEAR. There have been over a million dead from COVID during your presidency, w tens of millions disabled. This is what our family looked like a year AFTER you declared the pandemic over:

This year I unfortunately got POTS from COVID. POTS is a failure of the body to regulate blood flow correctly, the heart has to beat extra fast to get blood to reach the head when upright. It’s much more complicated than that but that’s the defining symptom.
One of the world's foremost AI researchers is now struggling with long COVID.
We are destroying hearts and minds letting Covid

“For people with debilitating long Covid, the new year heralds a cruel anniversary: Some are experiencing their fifth year with the agonizing illness. And despite the roughly $1.6 billion that the National Institutes of Health has received for long Covid research, not a single drug has yet been approved for that purpose.”

Sluggish gas exchange in the lungs may be involved in long-COVID brain fog | CIDRAP
“Lower rates of gas exchange in the lungs may contribute to impaired cognitive function ("brain fog") tied to long COVID, according to a small study to be presented at next week's Radiological Society of North America's (RSNA's) annual meeting in Chicago.
Pulmonary gas exchange is the movement of oxygen from the lungs to the bloodstream and carbon dioxide from the bloodstream to the lungs.”
Recovery and long-term health outcomes of SARS-CoV-2 infection in a prospective cohort in an urban setting, Kenya
“Conclusions: Six months post-infection, half of participants had lingering symptoms, with a third still affected after a year. Recovery was faster in younger, more educated individuals, while severe Long COVID was more common in women and those with low education and pre-existing conditions. Findings highlight the burden of Long COVID in Kenya and the need for support for vulnerable groups.”

“The path to curing Long COVID is a long and imperfect one. We’re in this for a while, and the ride will be bumpy. It feels particularly bumpy right now. Waiting for a definitive cure, and using trial-and-error methods in the meantime, requires emotional fortitude itself. Adding to that stress, we’re faced with the possibility that research funding for Long COVID may be interrupted by the next presidential administration. “
