Web “Start-Ups” Hit Cash Crunch. Or Don’t, Depending On Whom You Ask | TechCrunch
Well turns out someone did blog about it, VC Bryce Roberts, who recently equated venture’s current state to a “pig passing through a python.” Basically providing a way more nuanced explanation of the WSJ article’s main point, Roberts explained what is happening rationally, “As the time, attention and capital becomes more scarce upstream the number of companies who will attract follow on capital will continue to decrease. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing.” Basically that what’s happening currently is some form of seed stage Darwinism, weeding out the bad deals while solid companies are still seeing strong valuations. Case in point: Pinterest.

Outlook 2010 PC? It’s iCloud Or Google Calendar Sync, Not Both – And Outlook 2011 Mac Gets No Love
Of course, if you’re an all Apple person, iCloud calendar is probably awesome. If you’re using a PC and Apple devices, still lots of awesome. If you’re trying to use Android, staying with Google makes sense. If you do everything like me, well, you probably deserve all the pain that comes your way

Apple: We're Gonna Need a Bigger iPhone Order - John Paczkowski - Mobile - AllThingsD
As Brian White of Ticonderoga Securities observed earlier this week, “While the unveiling of the iPhone 4S received a muted response, both from the market and tech blogs, the customers have the final word, in our view, and they have spoken with resounding enthusiasm for the iPhone 4S.”

Apple prepping movie cloud service - latimes.com
Apple Inc. is preparing to put movies in the cloud, entering a market in which it may be both competitor and ally to a similar offering backed by most Hollywood studios. Representatives of the iPhone and iPad maker have been meeting with studios to finalize deals that would allow consumers to buy movies through iTunes and access them on any Apple device, according to knowledgeable people who requested anonymity because the discussions are private. The service is expected to launch in late 2011 or early 2012.

FOSS Patents: Steve Jobs patent enables Apple to shut down any new Android product in Australia
After today's decision, I believe no company in the industry be able to launch any new Android-based touchscreen product in Australia anytime soon without incurring a high risk of another interim injunction. The two patents on which today's ruling is based aren't Galaxy Tab 10.1-specific at all. They will affect all Android-based smartphones and tablet computers, across all vendors.

"We Are Absolutely in a Feature Race," Says Bradley Horowitz of Google - Liz Gannes - Social - AllThingsD
As for whether Google+ usage is fluctuating or falling, as many watchers have speculated, Horowitz brushed them aside, saying external measurements can’t grasp the “dark matter” of Google+. This dark matter consists of private sharing, which continues to account for two-thirds of all Google+ activity. In fact, Horowitz said, that number is “trending slightly up.” Horowitz asked for observers to have a little patience while Google+ is being built, saying the project was never intended for such a large audience or so much scrutiny at this stage.

IRS Auditing How Google Shifted Profits Offshore to Avoid Taxes - Businessweek
The agency is bringing more than typical scrutiny to how the company valued software rights and other intellectual property it licensed abroad, said the person, who requested anonymity because the audit isn’t public. The IRS has requested information from Google about its offshore deals after three acquisitions, including its $1.65 billion purchase of YouTube, the person said. The transfer overseas of these kinds of rights rights has enabled Google to attribute earnings to foreign units that pay lower taxes, Bloomberg News reported a year ago.
