"The playground is open," the ad declares from beneath the Google search box. "The new $199 tablet from Google." And under the ad copy, the image of a partial Nexus 7 peeks up with its lone webcam eye out of a gap in a white surface.

Video Demo of What a 4" iPhone Screen Looks Like in Action - Mac Rumors
The video shows how the new 4" Home Screen would look. The extra space would naturally allow for larger app folder sizes. Games and other apps would have to be modified to take advantage of the extra real estate. We imagined, however, that existing apps would be "letterboxed", simply leaving empty black space at the top and bottom of the larger screen. Apple used a similar approach when supporting iPhone apps on the iPad.

New Apple earphones for iPhone 5 allegedly appear on video | The Verge
It's been a while since Apple last updated its pack-in earbuds; the current model with the in-line remote and mic came out in 2008, and the design of the buds themselves dates back to 2006. That may be about to change with this month's all-but-certain release of a new iPhone, however. Vietnamese site Tinhte, which has a reasonable track record of getting hold of pre-release products, has posted a video of some earphones with a striking new design allegedly bound for the new iPhone 5.

Why Campaign Reporters Are Behind the Curve - NYTimes.com
Microtargeting was at once less directly influential, and more fundamentally disruptive, than these analyses suggested. The most colorful commercial variables that appeared prominently in journalistic accounts of microtargeting — whether someone drank gin or drove a Subaru — were never of much value on their own. It was the combination of hundreds, sometimes thousands, of data points that offered value: algorithms could weigh previously imperceptible relationships among variables to predict political attitudes and behavior.

Nokia's last chance? Here's what to expect from a huge week for Windows Phone 8 | The Verge
Nokia's last chance? Here's what to expect from a huge week for Windows Phone 8 | The Verge
We've been told by multiple sources to expect a Lumia 820 that will include a 4.3-inch display, exchangeable covers, and a microSD card slot to boost storage. While the device will include a dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, and 8-megapixel camera, the 820 will be overshadowed by its larger sibling, the Lumia 920. The second of Nokia's Windows Phone 8 devices will include a 4.5-inch HD display, an 8-megapixel "PureView" camera and the usual unibody design found on the Lumia 800 and Lumia 900.

cortesi - The UDID leak is a privacy catastrophe
In September 2011, I published the most troubling news so far, which paradoxically also got the least coverage in the press. I looked at all the gaming social networks on IOS - basically OpenFeint and its competitors - and found catastrophic mismanagement by nearly everyone. The vulnerabilities ranged from de-anonymization, to takeover of the user's gaming social network account, to the ability to completely take over the user's Facebook and Twitter accounts using just a UDID.

Widely used fingerprint reader exposes Windows passwords in seconds | Ars Technica
Widely used fingerprint reader exposes Windows passwords in seconds | Ars Technica
The UPEK Protector Suite, which was acquired by Melbourne, Florida-based Authentec two years ago, is marketed as a secure means for logging into Windows computers using an owner's unique fingerprint, rather than a user-memorized password. In reality, using the software makes users less secure than they otherwise would be. When activated, the software writes Windows account passwords to the registry and encrypts them with a key that is easy for hackers to retrieve. Once the key has been acquired, it takes seconds to decrypt the password.

Nokia Windows 8 tablet
“We have not announced any tablets, but I think the opportunity is very clear,” Nokia CEO Stephen Elop told ABC News. “People today increasingly are looking for a common digital experience between their smartphone and tablet, with a PC, and with their gaming platform, and so there’s clearly an opportunity across there. This is something that we’re looking at very closely.”

Motorola Droid Razr Maxx HD - Smartphones - CNET Reviews
The ultra-thin Droid Razr and the long-lasting Droid Razr Maxx were hit phones for Verizon Wireless, so it makes sense that Motorola Mobility would want to quickly follow up with them. Enter the Droid Razr HD and Droid Razr Maxx HD, which feature better specifications, a bigger, crisper display, and of course, better battery life. The phones, announced today at an event in New York, mark the first products unveiled by Motorola under parent Google, which acquired the company in May.
