Justice Department tries to force Google to hand over user data | Politics and Law - CNET News
An inspector general's report (PDF) found that the FBI made 50,000 NSL requests in 2006, and 97 percent of those included mandatory gag orders. NSLs can demand user profile information, but the law does not permit them to be used to obtain the text of e-mail messages or most log files. (Even if NSLs are eventually ruled unconstitutional, the FBI would still have a formidable array of investigative tools including subpoenas, court orders, search warrants, wiretap orders, pen registers, sneak and peek warrants, and surveillance under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act.)

Apple’s WWDC App Subtly Flattens Visual Elements, Developers Should Take Note Of The New Normal | TechCrunch
Apple’s WWDC App Subtly Flattens Visual Elements, Developers Should Take Note Of The New Normal | TechCrunch
That means a new look for app developers trying to achieve a “native” look on the platform, which could actually result in a lot of work for some to bring their apps up to spec. Lately, it seems like a lot of app developers have deviated from strictly copying Apple’s iOS design principles, however, and offered their own take, which seems to involve more and more flattening of visual components. But even slight changes can result in big headaches for designers trying to achieve a certain effect. Still, the changes overall look like improvements to me, so hopefully more third-party apps follow suit with this subtle but refreshing new look.

Amazon and Viacom announced a new multi-year licensing agreement on Tuesday that brings thousands of episodes Nickelodeon, Nick Jr., MTV and Comedy Central shows to Amazon Prime. The deal is an expansion of a previous deal Viacom and Amazon signed in 2012, and comes in the wake of the loss of Viacom content from streaming rival Netflix.
