Even better is the venue that Acton, Koum and venture capital investor Jim Goetz chose to sign the sales documents. They drove a few blocks from the WhatsApp headquarters to a vacant building literally on the other side of the tracks: the former social services office where Koum once stood in line to collect food stamps.

However, there are no countries where Windows Phone is outselling both Android handsets and the iPhone. Because it is always selling fewer than one or the other (or both, as is the case in many big European countries), it is continually falling further behind the three real mobile ecosystems (Google Android, non-Google Android in China, iOS). The chances of Nokia on its own ever catching the iPhone for installed base - which, remember, is the total of phones in peoples’ hands that has accumulated over years, not one month’s sales - in key territories such as the US and Europe are below minimal.

Samsung is known to pre-load a lot of applications a.k.a bloatware on its Galaxy devices. When the Galaxy S4 was unveiled last year, the company received a lot of flak because its bundled applications left only about 9GB of free internal storage space on the 16GB variant.

195M tablets sold in 2013 with Android taking nearly 62% of the market — Tech News and Analysis
Google’s Android tablets have overtaken Apple’s iPad in at least one statistic: market share. Tablets running Android accounted for 61.9 percent of sales in 2013, research firm Gartner announced on Monday, making this the first year that Android slates outsold iPads. Don’t shed too many tears for Apple though: It sold 70.4 million iPads during the year which is nearly double that of Samsung’s tablet sales.

Getty Images' profits haven't cratered like music conglomerates: its profits actually increased nearly $100 million from 2007 to 2011, thanks in part to digital licensing. Still, the digital shift has been hard on photographers, with professional stipends increasingly replaced by smaller payments to amateur or freelance photographers. Part of Peters' promise is that the new embeds will open up larger flows of money down the road.

PC gamers can’t play Titanfall and it’s EA’s fault | Games | Geek.com
EA’s servers for Titanfall are completely down right now, after struggling off the mark at midnight on launch day and requiring an emergency patch. The game was playable for a couple of hours after that, but then users started reporting connection errors and being randomly kicked out of game sessions. As the day drew to a close, more and more users found they were unable to connect and play Titanfall, until EA finally pulled the servers down entirely. As of right now, the PC version of Titanfall is experiencing “unexpected downtime” with no ETA for when the game will be back online.
