When One App Rules Them All: The Case of WeChat and Mobile in China | Andreessen Horowitz
Ultimately, however, WeChat should matter to all of us because it shows what’s possible when an entire country — which currently has a smartphone penetration of 62% (that’s almost 1/3 of its population) — “leapfrogs” over the PC era directly to mobile. WeChat was not a product that started as a website and then was adapted for mobile, it was (to paraphrase a certain movie) born into it, molded by it.

A Few Thoughts on Cryptographic Engineering: The network is hostile
Anyone who has taken a network security class knows that the first rule of Internet security is that there is no Internet security. Indeed, this assumption is baked into the design of the Internet and most packet-switched networks -- systems where unknown third parties are responsible for handling and routing your data. There is no way to ensure that your packets will be routed as you want them, and there's absolutely no way to ensure that they won't be looked at.

Intel Skylake CPU details revealed: These faster, more power-efficient chips can even drive three 4K monitors | PCWorld
While Haswell could drive a 4K monitor at only 30Hz, and Broadwell could drive a single 4K monitor at 60Hz, Skylake is capable of driving three panels at 4K resolution and 60Hz. Intel has also integrated fixed-function support of 4K video processing in hardware. That means Intel has dedicated transistors directly to the job of decoding and encoding 4K. In one demonstration showing playback of a 4K RAW video stream from a Canon video camera, playback was smooth using the Skylake graphics chip, while using just the CPU, it would constantly drop frames.

Company pays FCC $750,000 for blocking Wi-Fi hotspots at conventions | Ars Technica
It's the second enforcement action by the FCC taking aim at the blocking of FCC-approved Wi-Fi connections. In October, Marriott Hotel Services reached a $600,000 agreement with the FCC to settle allegations it interfered with and disabled Wi-Fi networks established by consumers in the hotel's conference facilities in Nashville. In January, the FCC issued an enforcement advisory that stated unequivocally Wi-Fi blocking was prohibited. Taken together, the moves should put hotels, convention centers, and just about everyone else on notice that it's unlawful to block FCC-approved Wi-Fi connections.

What went unannounced was that most of the original team that built Now had departed, many of them just before I/O, according to multiple sources. Some had grown frustrated that the product, born within Android, was shuttered into search inside of Google, they said. And Sundar Pichai, Google’s SVP and incoming CEO, did not prioritize the product as much as Page.
