Wireless companies wrangle over 4G definition | Denver Business Journal
They’re considered 4G because they provide mobile download speeds far superior to those of current, third-generation networks. For example, Clearwire/Sprint advertise an average speed of 3 to 6 megabits a second, and Verizon expects an average speed of 5 to 12 megabits a second. T-Mobile’s network uses HSPA+ technology, which technically is an extension of the current 3G network but provides an average download speed of 5 megabits a second. It also offers HSPA+ in 75 markets.
Apple delays white iPhone until next spring | Reuters
Apple Inc said on Tuesday that it would delay release of its eagerly anticipated white iPhone again, this time until next spring. The latest version of the popular handset, the iPhone 4, was released in June, but the white model was delayed first to July, then to the end of the year and now to early next year. "We're sorry to disappoint customers waiting for the white iPhone again," Apple spokeswoman Trudy Muller. She declined to explain the delay.
Google Maps Caught in Border Dispute - Tech Europe - WSJ
However, in a statement to Tech Europe, the Nicaraguan Embassy in London said: “The Government of Nicaragua has formally requested to Google not to accept the petition of Costa Rica to modify the border demarcation presented on Google Maps service, which recognizes Harbour Head as Nicaraguan territory. The path presented by Google corresponds to the various treaties that define the Nicaragua-Costa Rica border.”
Hulu Plus coming to all PS3 users | The Digital Home - CNET News
Hulu is slowing ramping up the availability of its Hulu Plus platform. Current owners of the 2010 models of Sony Bravia HDTVs started getting access to Hulu Plus yesterday. And next week, the company plans to make Hulu Plus available to PlayStation 3 owners who have a free PlayStation Network account.
Nintendo 3DS price and release date announced!
Nintendo has announced that the Nintendo 3DS will be released in Japan on February 26, 2011 and March 2011 in the US and Europe. Oh…I guess the wait really isn’t over. The Nintendo 3DS will cost 25,000 yen in Japan. Converting that to USD comes out to about $300! However, it would probably be in the $230 range, if we had to guess, when it launches here.
Google Android Turns 3
Today marks exactly three years since Google and a slew of hardware and carrier partners officially announced the Android mobile operating system. It was almost a year after that before the first major Android handset was released – the G1 on T-Mobile – and not until late 2009 that the Motorola Droid, complete with an aggressive ad campaign, catapulted the platform into the mainstream consciousness.
Verizon Drops Distribution of White Pages in Pa. - ABC News
Verizon will stop delivering residential White Pages in Pennsylvania next year, a cost-saving and environmentally friendly move that acknowledges more people are going online to track down phone numbers. The state Public Utility Commission on Thursday approved Verizon's plan to stop delivering the residential phone books, unless a customer specifically requests one.
Technology News: Mobile Apps: Flash Flood Swamps Skyfire
On Wednesday, Skyfire began selling in the App Store what it described as the first mobile browser that could deliver Flash video to an iPhone and an iPod touch. Five hours later, it pulled the browser because huge demand had overwhelmed its servers, Robert Oberhofer, senior director of product management, said in a blog post.
Should Stores Sell Violent Video Games to Minors? - NYTimes.com
The law would impose $1,000 fines on stores that sell violent video games to people under 18. It defined violent games as those “in which the range of options available to a player includes killing, maiming, dismembering or sexually assaulting an image of a human being” in a way that is “patently offensive,” appeals to minors’ “deviant or morbid interests” and lacks “serious literary, artistic, political or scientific value.” “What’s a deviant violent video game?” asked Justice Antonin Scalia, who was the law’s most vocal opponent on Tuesday. “As opposed to what? A normal violent video game?” “Some of the Grimm’s fairy tales are quite grim,” he added. “Are you going to ban them, too?” Justice Stephen G. Breyer took the other side. He said common sense should allow the government to help parents protect children from games that include depictions of “gratuitous, painful, excruciating, torturing violence upon small children and women.”
Atty: MN Woman Can't Pay For Sharing Songs - CBS News
A Minnesota woman ordered to pay a recording industry trade group $1.5 million for illegally sharing music online doesn't plan to pay those damages as her attorneys continue to argue the amount is unconstitutional, she said Thursday. A federal jury found Wednesday that Jammie Thomas-Rasset, of Brainerd, must pay $62,500 per song - for a total of $1.5 million - for illegally violating copyrights on 24 songs. This was the third jury to consider damages in her case, and each has found that she must pay - though different amounts. And after each time, the mother of four has said she can't pay. "I can't afford to pay any amount. It's not a matter of won't, it's a matter of 'I can't,'" Thomas-Rasset said Thursday. "Any amount that I pay to them is money that I could use to feed my children. Any amount that I pay to them is money I could use to clothe my kids, and pay my mortgage so my kids have a place to sleep."
How Apple Almost Got Microsoft’s Kinect Game Controller | Cult of Mac
Obsessed with secrecy, Apple had already asked Beracha to sign a stack of crippling legal agreements and NDAs. He shook his head. Why didn’t he want to do a deal with Apple? No need. The technology was hot. He could sell it to anyone. “Apple is a pain in the ass,” he said, smiling.
Google LatLong: Regarding the boundary between Costa Rica and Nicaragua
Yesterday we became aware of a dispute that referenced the border between Costa Rica and Nicaragua as depicted on Google Maps. This morning, after a discussion with the data supplier for this particular border (the U.S. Department of State), we determined that there was indeed an error in the compilation of the source data, by up to 2.7 kilometers. The U.S. Department of State has provided a corrected version and we are now working to update our maps.
Apple's example Mac app prices land around $15-20
These same apps are the ones that set the pricing bar on the iPad, and so if these are real (and not just photoshopped in), then they're the first official indication we've gotten of just where Apple imagines pricing should be on the App Store. And where is that? Turns out they're pretty close to current software prices -- the iLife apps are priced out at $15, while the iWork apps are priced at $20, and when you add them all up, they cost about the same as the bundles you can buy in the Apple retail store.
Microsoft's Ballmer sells 12 percent of his stake in company | Reuters
Microsoft Corp Chief Executive Steve Ballmer sold $1.3 billion worth of shares in the company, cutting his stake by about 12 percent, but said his first stock sale in seven years should not be taken as a lack of confidence in the world's largest software firm. Ballmer said he will sell more shares by the end of the year, in a move to diversify his investments and plan for taxes, but the company sought to allay talk that the 54-year old executive, who has been CEO since 2000, may be preparing an exit from the company.

Web Shames Magazine for Plagiarizing Blogger's Article
According to Gaudio, she contacted the editor of Cooks Source to inquire about the article (which is about the history of apple pie) and how it managed to appear in the magazine. At one point in the exchange, Gaudio said, the editor asked her what she wanted, and Gaudio replied that she wanted an apology to appear both in the magazine and on the magazine’s Facebook Page, as well as a $130 donation (a sum that equates to about $0.10 per word of the piece in question) to be made to the Columbia School of Journalism. The editor, who said that she has three decades of experience editing for The Voice, Connecticut Woman Magazine and other publications, responded that since everything on the web is considered “public domain,” Gaudio “should be happy we didn’t just ‘lift’ your whole article and put someone else’s name on it,” a common occurrence on college campuses and elsewhere, she notes. She goes on to say that the article “was in very bad need of editing, and is much better now than it w
