Apple's MacBook Air A $3 Billion Revenue Opportunity - John Paczkowski - News - AllThingsD
Apple's MacBook Air A $3 Billion Revenue Opportunity - John Paczkowski - News - AllThingsD
When he last gauged the revenue opportunity of the MacBook Air back in April, J.P. Morgan hardware analyst Mark Moskowitz estimated it at $2.2 billion. But with a refresh of the machine in the offing and demand for it still strong, he’s reassessed and come up with a new figure: $3 billion. Moskowitz’s rationale for this is simple: The Air’s sales rose 2.9 percent sequentially in the first quarter, significantly outpacing the Mac’s overall. Add to this the fact that Apple shipped 432,000 MacBook Airs during that period, up 412.9 percent year over year at a time when the broader PC market was down 10.1 percent, and it’s not hard to see that the machine is building up quite a bit of traction in the market.

New York Post Blocks iPad Access Via Safari To Sell Subscriptions | paidContent
It must have sounded like a great idea to someone at News Corp (NSDQ: NWS) at the time: “Hey, I know how we can sell more subscriptions through the New York Post iPad App! Let’s block access through iPad Safari and make them go to the app instead.” What they should have heard: “Hey, let’s make our editorial content as inaccessible and irrelevant as possible and send iPad users to other options. Oh, and at the same time, let’s take three giant steps back.”

Facebook PR: Tonight We Dine In Hell!
Facebook PR: Tonight We Dine In Hell!
Here’s where things get more interesting. Apple knows about Project Spartan, and is believed to even be lending some minor support to the project. Why do that for a project that ultimately hopes to usurp the native App Store and Apple payment model? Because Apple is not afraid of it at all, we’ve heard. And based on some of the HTML5-based Spartan apps I’ve seen, I have to agree. The likelihood users would choose these over a native iPhone app right now, is laughable.
