The Power of Mentorship – How Guiding Others Builds Stronger Connections
The Power of Mentorship – How Guiding Others Builds Stronger Connections
On building community. "A mentor is someone who allows you to see the hope inside yourself." – Oprah Winfrey Mentorship is more than just sharing knowledge—it’s about fostering relationships that empower individuals and strengthen communities. Whether in the workplace, academia, or personal life, mentorship plays a crucial role in personal and professional development. I have a few flavors of mentors, I often call this building your personal "Board of Directors" and with any board, members will come in and out over time. They also have different strengths that they bring to the table. It is great to have your 'trusted advisor", "peer mentors", "Best Friend Forever BFF", "Champion or Sponsor". I'll talk more about the Board of Directors coming in my next blog post.    Here’s why mentorship matters and how you can make an impact: Why Mentorship is Important Fosters Growth and Development – Mentees gain valuable insights, while mentors reinforce their own knowledge and leadership skills. Builds Stronger Networks – Meaningful mentorship relationships create lasting professional and personal connections. Encourages Confidence and Motivation – Guidance from an experienced mentor helps individuals believe in their potential. Promotes Knowledge Sharing – Experience and wisdom are passed down, preserving valuable skills and insights. Creates a Culture of Support – A strong mentorship culture leads to more engaged and collaborative communities. How to Be an Effective Mentor Be Approachable and Open-Minded – Foster an environment where mentees feel comfortable seeking guidance. Listen Actively – Understand their goals, challenges, and aspirations to provide meaningful advice. Offer Constructive Feedback – Provide encouragement while offering actionable steps for growth. Share Experiences and Insights – Personal stories and real-world examples make mentorship more impactful. Encourage Independence – Empower mentees to take initiative and make informed decisions. Mentorship is a two-way street—both mentors and mentees benefit from the experience. By investing in others, you help build stronger, more connected communities where growth and success are shared. Be a mentor and have a mentor - you learn on both sides, curate your board. IMHO one of the best things we can do in our lives is to have deep, amazing relationships with other humans. Mentorship is one of those swim lanes.    #ThePowerofCommunity #BelongingMatters #CuppaCommuniTea #MicrosoftCommunity   🍵 Today I am drinking a cuppa Twinings English Breakfast.  The English brand Twinings dates all the way back to 1706. With a history like that, Twinings is the oldest brand on this best-teas list. Thomas Twinings began selling tea in his coffee house to the wealthy elites of London. From there, his son began exporting it to America in 1749.

An iCloud Backdoor Would Make Our Phones Less Safe
An iCloud Backdoor Would Make Our Phones Less Safe
Last month, the UK government demanded that Apple weaken the security of iCloud for users worldwide. On Friday, Apple took steps to comply for users in the United Kingdom. But the British law is written in a way that requires Apple to give its government access to anyone, anywhere in the world. If the government demands Apple weaken its security worldwide, it would increase everyone’s cyber-risk in an already dangerous world. If you’re an iCloud user, you have the option of turning on something called “advanced data protection,” or ADP. In that mode, a majority of your data is end-to-end encrypted. This means that no one, not even anyone at Apple, can read that data. It’s a restriction enforced by mathematics—cryptography—and not policy. Even if someone successfully hacks iCloud, they can’t read ADP-protected data...

Here is my recent Daily Record column. My past Daily Record articles can be accessed here. **** AI in Law Firms: Ethics Committees Are Clearing the Path Forward Whenever new technologies become available to lawyers, ethical concerns initially pose a significant hurdle to adoption. This friction is understandable. Legal professionals are necessarily cautious about tinkering with trusted legal workflows and processes, sometimes resulting in a reluctance to embrace new and innovative ways of working. Our clients trust us with highly sensitive information, and we have an obligation to ensure that confidentiality is not compromised when implementing new software. We rely...
