Alt Text: What to Write
Alt Text: What to Write
How do you write good alt text? What images need alt text? This article from the NN group answers both questions. I learned something new about adding periods to the end of alt text.
End alt text with a period, even if it isn’t a full sentence. The period ensures that the screen reader pauses after reading the alt text.
Summary:  Images are decorative, functional, or informative. Skip alt text for decorative. Describe the action for functional. Convey the message for informative.

If you give FLUX1.1 a prompt like "IMG_1018.CR2" you get back images that are so very hard to tell they're AI.

An odd tip from Twitter/X--use a file name with an extension for raw images as part of the prompt to generate realistic looking photos. I assume this is somehow prompting the model to look for those raw photos, but I wouldn't have thought of trying this.

Can you identify which images are generated by AI and which ones are real? Test yourself with these 10 pairs of images. I got 9/10 right, but I think more of these AI images would have fooled me if they weren't in a context where I knew one image in each pair was fake.

MIDJOURNEY: (176) Photorealistic Tokens Cheat Sheet
Rory Flynn's guide to prompting for photorealistic images in Midjourney. Part of the challenge in prompting is that many of us don't know the specific vocabulary to describe aspects of images we want. We may not know examples of cameras or photo effects. This guide gives you phrases to make your prompts more specific. Download via Gumroad for free or an optional donation.

While you can create multiple poses of a single character in Midjourney, it's really tricky to get two or three characters in a single scene. Rory Flynn has a suggested process that involves creating multiple character sheets as the starting point then creating scenes with multiple --cref URLs or using Vary Region to add another character.

AI Story Generator (Free, No Signup & Unlimited)
AI Story Generator (Free, No Signup & Unlimited)
This seems like something that could be done with a combination of other tools (an LLM plus an image generator), but this is a tool that creates stories plus images to accompany them. It would be interesting to experiment with as inspiration for training scenarios. However, note that the site claims copyright of all stories created, so don't plan to use this for commercial purposes. Use it for inspiration rather than as the actual content of a story.

Reface – AI Face Swap App & Video Face Swaps
A collection of AI image and video tools. I saw an example of a comic created by face swapping AI-generated images with a photo of a real person. This kind of technology might be a way to generate multiple images of a character in different poses and with varied expressions but with consistency in features.

Tom Kuhlmann created illustrated characters in different poses using Midjourney and then cleaned them up afterwards. He's sharing these results for free. Note that some images may still have some weird artifacts, even after the cleanup. These would be a great resource for people looking for a free character set for a portfolio sample.

Artflow has tools for creating character images and videos with automated voices. The free version is for noncommercial use only, but the paid plans can be used for commercial uses. The samples have some AI weirdness as is seen in a lot of the image to video conversions, but this looks like a fun tool to explore.

Tom Kuhlmann describes his experiences using AI tools to create images for elearning. Right now, I agree with Tom about the challenges in time spent and lack of consistency; that's what I'm finding in my own experiments. Tom's tips on how to get what you want are a good place to start though.
