Individualized antibiotic plans as a quality improvement initiative to reduce carbapenem use for hematopoietic cell transplant patients at a freestanding pediatric hospital - PubMed
Implementation of IAPs in this high-risk HCT population led to reduction in overall antibiotic use without increase in rate of BSI or CD test positivity. The program was well-received by providers.

Clinical Outcomes and Management of NAAT-Positive/Toxin-Negative Clostridioides difficile Infection: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis - PubMed
Treatment of patients who were NAAT+/Toxin- was associated with reduced all-cause mortality, but not recurrence. While subject to the inherent limitations of observational studies, these results suggest that some patients who are NAAT+/Toxin- may benefit from treatment.

Identification of donor Bacteroides vulgatus genes encoding proteins that correlate with early colonization following fecal transplant of patients with recurrent Clostridium difficile - PubMed
Due to suppressive antibiotics, patients with recurrent Clostridium difficile have gut microbial communities that are devoid of most commensal microbes. Studies have shown that most of the failures using fecal microbe transplantation (FMT) for recurrent C. difficile occur during the first 4 weeks fo …

Ceftazidime-Avibactam as Osteomyelitis Therapy: A Miniseries and Review of the Literature - PubMed
Bone and joint infections (BJIs) caused by multidrug-resistant gram-negative bacteria are becoming a concern due to limited therapeutic options. Although not approved for these indications, an ever-growing amount of evidence supports the efficacy and safety of ceftazidime-avibactam as a therapy for …

Medical divisions are at high risk of Clostridioides difficile infection (CDI) due to patients' frailty and complexity. This sub-analysis of the FADOI-PRACTICE study included patients presenting with diarrhea either at admission or during hospitalization. CDI diagnosis was confirmed when both enzyme …

Preventing the spread of life-threatening gastrointestinal microbes on the surface of a continuously self-disinfecting block polymer - PubMed
Highly persistent, drug-resistant and transmissible healthcare pathogens such as Clostridioides difficile (C. difficile) and Candida auris (C. auris) are responsible for causing antibiotic-associated fatal diarrhea and invasive candidiasis, respectively. In this study, we demonstrate that these pote …

Antibiotic utilisation and resistance over the first decade of nationally funded antimicrobial stewardship programmes in Singapore acute-care hospitals - PubMed
In the five hospitals with complete data, decrease in broad-spectrum antibiotic utilisation rate was followed by decrease in incidence density of antibiotic-resistant organisms. ASP should continue to be nationally funded as a key measure to combat antimicrobial resistance in acute care hospitals.

Reducing antibiotic use is one of the biggest challenges in pig farming, as antibiotics have been used for years to control typical problems such as newborn or post-weaning diarrhea. The pressure a one health approach has created on animal production regarding antimicrobial resistance is an opportun …
