Effect of Aloe Vera Compress for Decreasing the Degree of Phlebitis among Hospitalized Children in Indonesia
Effect of Aloe Vera Compress for Decreasing the Degree of Phlebitis among Hospitalized Children in Indonesia
Background: Aloe vera is more effective than routine treatment alone to improve symptoms of phlebitis. However, few studies have been conducted in Indonesia to explore the effectiveness of aloe vera on phlebitis among hospitalized children with wide-ranged of age. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of aloe vera in reducing the degree of phlebitis among hospitalized children in Indonesia. Methods: This study was conducted using a quasi-experimental design, a pretest-posttest design with a control group. The sample of this study was 42 children (21 respondents in both groups) with phlebitis that hospitalized in one general public health in West Java, Indonesia from May to July 2019. The intervention group was provided a compress of extract aloe vera (5 ml) and the control group was provided a compress of 70% Alcohol. The instrument used in this study was Visual Infusion Phlebitis (VIP) score. The Mann Whitney test was used to evaluate the difference of degree of phlebitis between intervention and control group and Wilcoxon test used to evaluate the difference before and after the intervention. Results: The majority of respondents were in the infant stage (45.23%), having normal nutrition status (54.76%). On average, the length of stay in the hospital was seven days and receive intravenous therapy solution non-electrolyte and antibiotics. The average score for the post-test score was decreased in both classes. There is a statistically significant difference between the phlebitis score both in the Aloe Vera and 70% baseline-specific experimental classes, during 8, 16, 32, 40, 48 hours of treatment implementation (p

Cardioprotective Effect of Aloe vera Biomacromolecules Conjugated with Selenium Trace Element on Myocardial Ischemia-Reperfusion Injury in Rats SpringerLink
Cardioprotective Effect of Aloe vera Biomacromolecules Conjugated with Selenium Trace Element on Myocardial Ischemia-Reperfusion Injury in Rats SpringerLink
The present study was undertaken to evaluate the cardioprotection potential and underlying molecular mechanism afforded by a selenium (Se) polysaccharide (Se-AVP) from Aloe vera in the ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) model of rats in vivo. Myocardial I/R injury was induced by occluding the left anterior descending coronary artery (LAD) for 30 min followed by 2-h continuous reperfusion. Pretreatment with Se-AVP (100, 200, and 400 mg/kg) attenuated myocardial damage, as evidenced by reduction of the infarct sizes, increase in serum and myocardial endogenous antioxidants (superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GSH), and catalase (CAT)), and decrease in the malondialdehyde (MDA) level in the rats suffering I/R injury. This cardioprotective activity afforded by Se-AVP is further supported by the decreased levels of cardiac marker enzymes creatine kinase (CK) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), as well as the rise of myocardial Na+-K+-ATPase and Ca2+-Mg2+-ATPase activities in I/R rats. Additionally, cardiomyocytic apoptosis was measured by terminal-deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated nick end labeling (TUNEL) staining and the result showed that the percent of TUNEL-positive cells in myocardium of Se-AVP-treated groups was lower than I/R rats. In conclusion, we clearly demonstrated that Se-AVP had a protective effect against myocardial I/R injury in rats by augmenting endogenous antioxidants and protecting rat hearts from oxidative stress-induced myocardial apoptosis.

Aloe vera (L.) Webb. Natural Sources of Antioxidants – A Review SpringerLink
Many studies have proved that bioactive components of Aloe vera have an anti-inflammatory effect and support lipid and carbohydrate metabolism, helping to maintain normal sugar and cholesterol levels in blood and normal body weight. When aloe is applied externally, it accelerates the regeneration of the damaged skin. Aloe contains antioxidants, which may increase the shelf-life and nutritional value of food; therefore, it is widely used in cosmetic, pharmaceutical and food industry. An antioxidant activity was shown for leaf’s skin, flowers and gel of aloe. In this work the future of A. vera as effective antioxidants is primarily discussed and expected trends are summarised. Furthermore, the bioactive components and the health-promoting effects of A. vera are investigated.

Comparison of effect of aloe Vera gel with aspirin and celecoxib on platelet aggregation. The Professional Medical Journal
Objective: This study was designed to compare the effect of Aloe vera gel with aspirin and celecoxib on platelet aggregation. Study Design: Comparative Study. Setting: Post graduate Medical Institute Lahore, Children Hospital, Lahore. Period: September 2015 to September 2016. Material & Methods: Blood was withdrawn from anti-cubital vein, complete blood count was checked, platelet rich plasma was prepared by centrifuging citrated whole blood and then incubated with  Aloe vera low (AVL), Aloe vera high (AVH), aspirin and celecoxib for 30 minutes at 37C. After adding the agonist arachidonic acid, reading was then taken for 3 minutes and percentage aggregation was recorded. Results: Platelet aggregation with aspirin, AVH and AVL was statistically significantly lower as compared to control and celecoxib groups. Conclusion: This study has demonstrateda dose dependentanti-platelet effect of Aloe vera gel which is comparable to aspirin.

Effect of topical application of aloe vera gel on the cord
Effect of topical application of aloe vera gel on the cord
Introduction and Objectives: Annually one million newborns die due to the umbilical cord infection. Thus, in this study, we aimed toevaluate the effect of topical aloe vera gel on umbilical cord complications. Methods: This randomized clinical trial was performed in maternity ward of Ghaem Hospital, Mashhad, Iran The samples were selected through convenience sampling and were randomly divided into three groups of aloe vera, control, and placebo. For data analysis, One-way ANOVA test was conducted. Results: Comparison of cord condition between the groups showed significant differences between the three groups. In the placebo group, the number of infants with redness around the cord was significantly higher compared to the control (P=0.002) and aloe vera (P=0.002) groups. In addition, cord swelling was significantly more frequent in the placebo group than the control (P=0.002) and aloe vera (P=0.002) groups. The incidence of cord infection was significantly higher in the placebo group than the control (P=0.000) and aloe vera (P=0.000) groups. The occurrence of infection in the umbilical cord of the newborns in the placebo group was significantly more compared to the control (P=0.000) and aloe vera (P=0.000) groups. Conclusion: Topical aloe vera gel accelerated cord separation and reduced the rates of complications and infections.

Aloe vera ameliorates cerebral ischemiareperfusion injury in rats - Ar (...)
Objective: The protective effect of aloe vera is due to its anti-inflammatory properties. This experimental study focused on revealing the effects of aloe vera on antioxidant systems and determining the number of degenerated neurons after cerebral ischemia and reperfusion. Methods: Twenty-one rats were divided equally into three groups: group I rats were used as controls; group II rats were fed with standard diet, and group III rats were fed with standard diet plus aloe vera for 30 days. For groups II and III, the right middle cerebral arteries were occluded for 45 min and then reperfused for 24 h. After these procedures, rats in all groups were sacrificed. The levels of malondialdehyde and nuclear respiratory factor-1 and superoxide dismutase activity in the right cerebral cortex were measured. The number of degenerated neurons was counted in histological samples of the right cerebral cortex. Neuronal nitric oxide synthase expression was examined with immunohistochemical methods. Results: Superoxide dismutase activity and nuclear respiratory factor-1 levels were decreased in group II compared with group I (p
