Prevention of acute radiation-induced Proctitis by Aloe vera a prospective randomized, double-blind, placebo controlled clinical trial in Pelvic Cancer patientst
Background Acute radiation-induced proctitis (ARP) is the most common side effect following radiotherapy for malignant pelvic disease. This study evaluated the efficacy of Aloe vera ointment in prevention of ARP. Methods Forty-two patients receiving external-beam radiotherapy (RT) for pelvic malignancies were randomized to receive either Aloe vera 3% or placebo topical ointment during radiotherapy for 6 weeks. These patients were evaluated based on the severity (grade 0–4) of the following symptoms weekly: rectal bleeding, abdominal/rectal pain, diarrhea, or fecal urgency. RTOG acute toxicity criteria and psychosocial status of the patients were also recorded weekly. Lifestyle impact of the symptoms, and quantitative measurement of C-reactive protein (CRP), an indicator of systemic inflammation, were also measured. Results The results of present study demonstrated a significant preventive effect for Aloe vera in occurrence of symptom index for diarrhea (p

A Clinic Trial Evaluating the Effects of Aloe Vera Fermentation Gel on Recurrent Aphthous Stomatitis
Recurrent aphthous stomatitis (RAS) is the most common disorder in the oral mucosa that affects the daily quality of life of patients, and there is currently no specific treatment. In the present study, we developed aloe vera fermentation gel under the action of probiotics on aloe vera. In total, 35 patients with the history of aphthous stomatitis were enrolled to explore the potential benefits of aloe vera fermentation gel to treat RAS, and the healing-promotion effects were recorded and compared; microbial compositions in different groups were tested by high-throughput sequencing. Our results indicated that the duration of healing time of the aloe group showed potentially better effects because of the higher proportion of 4–6 day healing time (35% vs. 20%) and lower proportion of 7–10 day healing time (65% vs. 80%) compared with that of the chitosan group. Also, the use of aloe vera fermentation gel could return oral bacteria to normal levels and reduce the abundance of harmful oral bacteria including Actinomyces, Granulicatella, and Peptostreptococcus. These results suggest that aloe vera fermentation gel has the ability to treat patients with RAS and has positive prospects in clinical applications.

Protective Effect of Aloe Vera Gel Extract on Histopathologic Changes in Ovaries and Gonadotropin in MS Model of Rat Bangladesh Journal of Medical Science
Objective: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a self-immune demyelinating disorder of the CNS, followed by neuropathic discomfort, especially in young people in reproductive age. So, This research was conducted with the aim of assessing the protective effect of Aloe vera gel (AVG) extract on histopathologic changes of the ovary and gonadotropin in an experimental MS model of rat. Methods: In this research, 30 pieces of rats of Wistar race were randomly divided into 6 groups of 5. 20 pieces, 14μl of ethidium bromide was injected in their lateral ventricles to induce MS. In 5 pieces as control group 2, 14μL of saline was injected into the lateral ventricles, and the remaining 5 rats were considered as control group 1. Treatment of three groups of rats with MS was performed with AVG extract at 50 mg/kg BW, 100 mg/kg BW 100 and 200 mg/ kg BW. At the end, blood sampling to measure serum FSH and LH, Their ovaries were isolated for microscopic examination. Results: The results of counting the number of ovarian follicles showed a significant decrease in the number of primary and secondary and graafian follicles in group 3, compared to the control group. There is a significant increase in the concentration of FSH and LH in group 3 in comparison to the control group. Conclusion: Finally, It can be said that by inducing MS, The number of ovarian follicles decreased, and the number of atretic follicles and the concentration of gonadotropin hormones increased, and treatment with AVG extract was effective in improving these factors. Several factors limit the absorption and bioavailability of vitamins. Vitamin C, a commonly used water-soluble supplement reduces the risk of disease. Vitamin B(12) is necessary for the development of RBC, growth, and nervous system. Vitamin B(12) deficiency is common among elderly. Thus, agents tha …

Acacia Senegal (Gum Arabic) Supplementation Modulate Lipid Profile and Ameliorated Dyslipidemia among Sickle Cell Anemia Patients
Acacia Senegal (Gum Arabic) Supplementation Modulate Lipid Profile and Ameliorated Dyslipidemia among Sickle Cell Anemia Patients
Background. Sickle cell disease (SCD) is an inherited haemolytic anemia with a variable course and severity. Knowledge of prognostic biomarkers may help in the establishment of therapeutic intervention, management, and follow-up of patients. There have been scattered reports of low high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) and increased triglyceride (TG) in SCD patients. In addition, TG levels have been suggested to be elevated in patients with increased endothelial activation. An increased TG level has been associated with haemolysis, vascular dysfunction, and increased prevalence of pulmonary hypertension. Gum Arabic (GA) is an edible, dried, gummy exudate from the acacia Senegal tree. Several studies on GA ingestion have shown reduced plasma cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) concentrations in both animals and humans. We investigated GA’s therapeutic potential to modulate serum lipids in patients with sickle cell anemia. Methods. This study recruited and documented secondary outcomes in 47 patients (aged 5–42 years) carrying hemoglobin SS. The patients received 30 g/day of GA for 12 weeks. Total cholesterol, TG, LDL, and HDL were measured before and after GA intake. Cobas C311 (Roche, Germany) automated chemistry analyser was used for direct determination of the values of the lipid profile. Results. GA significantly decreased total cholesterol (TC), TG, and LDL (p = 0.006, 0.04, and 0.02, resp.). GA showed no effect on HDL level. Baseline serum TG and LDL correlated significantly with the hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) level, which is known as an oxidative stress marker (p = 0.003 and 0.04, resp.). None of the lipid profile elements correlated with age. Conclusion. Our results revealed that dyslipidemia in sickle cell patients is associated with oxidative stress but not associated with age. The findings showed that GA significantly decreased TC, LDL, and TG levels, revealing a novel effect of GA, which is considered a natural dietary fibre that can modulate lipid profile in patients with sickle cell anemia. Trial Registration. This retrospective trial is registered with ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier: NCT02467257 on 3 June, 2015.

Acemannan and Fructans from Aloe vera (Aloe barbadensis Miller) plants (...)
The nutraceutical properties of Aloe vera have been attributed to a glucomannan known as acemannan. Recently information has been published about the presence of fructans in Aloe vera but there are no publications about acemannan and fructans as prebiotic compounds. This study investigated in vitro the prebiotic properties of these polysaccharides. Our results demonstrated that fructans from Aloe vera induced bacterial growth better than inulin (commercial FOS). Acemannan stimulated bacterial growth less than fructans, and as much as commercial FOS. Using qPCR to study the bacterial population of human feces fermented in a bioreactor simulating colon conditions, we found that fructans induce an increase in the population of Bifidobacterium spp. Fructans produced greater amounts of short chain fatty acids (SCFA), while the branched-chain fatty acids (BCFA) did not increase with these polysaccharides. Acemannan increased significantly acetate concentrations. Therefore, both Aloe vera polysaccharides have prebiotic potentials.
