The processed Aloe vera gel (PAG) contains immunomodulatory polysaccharides, which consists of a mixture of polymer chains of b-(1,4)-linked acetylated galactomannan with different lengths. PAG was shown to inhibit azoxymethane(AOM)-initiated and dextran sodium sulfate(DSS)-promoted colon carcinogenesis model in mice. In the present study, we examined the molecular mechanisms for the inhibition of colitis-associated colon carcinogenesis by PAG. PAG administration significantly inhibited the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines and mediators in the colon. Western blot analysis using the colon extracts showed that PAG administration reduced the activation of NF-kB resulting in the inhibition of iNOS and COX-2 expression. PAG appeared to inhibit NF-kB activation through the PPARγ activation. PAG administration also inhibited the expression and phosphorylation of STAT3, which was known to connect inflammation and cancer. PAG administration also inhibited cell cycle progression-related transcription factors such as the proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA), ERK, cyclin-dependent kinase (CDK) 4 and cyclin D1. In contrast, PAG administration increased the expression of CDX2, which was known to be a tumor suppressor in colorectal cancers. These findings show that PAG suppresses colitis-related colon carcinogenesis by inhibiting both chronic inflammation and cell cycle progression in the colon.
The effect of Aloe Vera gel on prevention of pressure ulcers in patients hospitalized in the orthopedic wards a randomized triple-blind clinical trial SpringerLink
Background One of the most common orthopedic problems is the incidence of pressure ulcer followed by immobility. This study aimed to investigate the effect of Aloe Vera gel on the prevention of pressure ulcer in patients hospitalized in the orthopedic ward. Method This study is a randomized, triple-blind clinical trial which was done on 80 purposefully selected patients in orthopedic ward in Arak town, Iran, 2016. Patients were randomly assigned into two intervention and control groups based on blocking sampling method. In each group the routine daily cares to prevent bed sores were performed by nurses. In the intervention group in addition to routine nursing care to prevent bed sores, twice a day (hours of 9 and 21) pure Aloe Vera gel on the areas of hip, sacrum and heel were rubbed, but in the control group placebo (gel of water and starch) were used. Then sacral, hip and heel of both groups on days 3, 7 and 10 for of signs of pressure ulcers was evaluated. Results The mean age of patients in the control group was (42.34 ± 12.19) and in the intervention group Was (41.71 ± 11.50) years, respectively. In the intervention group 1 patient afflicted with sore of hip and two people with sacral pressure ulcer. In the control group 3 patients affiliated with sore of hip, 8 people with sacral pressure ulcer, and 1 person had pressure sore of heel. Analysis of the data showed that both groups had statistically significant differences in the incidence of pressure ulcers (P = 0.047). This means that Aloe Vera gel could prevent the occurrence of pressure ulcers in the intervention group. Conclusion Due to the effect of Aloe Vera gel to prevent a rise in temperature, non-blanchable redness, swelling and pain of the skin of regions under study in hospitalized patients in the orthopedic ward, applying of it toward the prevention of pressure ulcers in patients at risk of pressure ulcer development is recommended. The effects of Aloe Vera on TNF-a levels in Rat That Received Antitube (...)
Introduction : Tuberculosis has become a serious health problem in the world. Increased mortality in patients with tuberculosis infection is associated with MDR and hepatotoxic side effects of antituberculosis drugs. Therefore, it is necessary to find an alternative drug that can reduce the hepatotoxic side effects . Objective : This study aims to investigate the benefits of Aloe vera in preventing liver damage as a side effect of antituberculosis drug administration. Method: Twenty-five rats will be divided into five groups, namely the control group (without any treatment), the group of rats treated by anti-tuberculosis drugs, and a group of mice were given antituberculosis drugs and got Aloe vera extract at a dose of 40; 80; and 120 mg/kg body weight. Results: Antituberculosis drugs are isoniazid and rifampicyn a dose of 50 mg/kg body weight. Levels of TNF-a were significantly higher in the antituberculosis group compared with the control group (P < 0.05). All doses of Alovevera reduce levels of TNF-a compared with the antituberculosis group (P < 0.05), although it has not yet reached levels comparable to the control group (P > 0.05). Conclusion: It was concluded that administration of Aloe vera can suppress the production of TNF-a as a result of antituberculosis drug administration. Thus, Aloe vera can be a useful alternative to natural materials in the successful treatment of tuberculosis through the inhibition of hepatotoxid side effect. Objective: In the living organisms, deleterious effects produced by ionizing radiations. Human exposure to ionizing radiations increased enormously because of rapid technological advancements. There is a need to protect humans against such effects of ionizing radiation. Protection against the deleterious effects of ionizing radiations by radioprotectors was studied, which may be of great help for human application. Present study was conducted to evaluate the modulating efficacy of prolonged administration of Aloe vera extract against gamma irradiation-induced toxicity in mice. Methods: Animals were given Aloe vera leaf extract orally 1000 mg/kg body weight/d for 15 consecutive days before radiation exposure (0.5, 3 and 5.5 Gy gamma radiation). Results: Mice were autopsied at day ¼, 1, 3, 5, 10 and 20 after irradiation to evaluate the radio modulator effect in terms of the hepatosomatic index. Conclusion: Aloe vera extract has a beneficial protective effect against radiation-induced oxidative stress.

A plethora of publications have reported several cytotoxic effects associated with chronic consumption of thermoxidized palm oil. This research aims to investigate the effects of garlic and Aloe vera on liver function and hepatic cytoarchitecture in rats fed thermoxidized palm oil diet.,Thirty-five male albino Wistar rats weighing 150-180 g were used for this study. They were randomly assigned into five groups (n = 7): control, thermoxidized palm oil diet fed (TPO), TPO plus garlic juice (TPO + G), TPO plus Aloe gel (TPO + A) and TPO plus garlic/Aloe gel (TPO + G + A). The TPO diet was prepared by mixing 15 g of cooled thermoxidized palm oil with 85 g of rat feed. The juice and gel were orally administered at doses of 2.00 ml/kg and 19.12 ml/kg, respectively. After 3 months of feeding and administration, the animals were sacrificed using standard methods and blood collected via cardiac puncture for analysis.,Serum alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alkaline phosphatase were significantly increased (p < 0.001) in the TPO group compared to the control. This increase was reduced (p < 0.001) in all the treated groups compared to TPO, with the greatest decrease (p < 0.001) seen in TPO + A. Total bilirubin was increased (p < 0.001) in the TPO group compared to the control, whereas there was a significant decrease (p < 0.001) in all the treated groups. Serum proteins and plasma fibrinogen were lowered (p < 0.001) in the TPO group compared to the control but increased progressively in all the treated groups. TPO induced prominent histopathological derangements of the liver tissues. However, there were marked improvements following treatment with garlic and Aloe vera.,The results obtained in this study have revealed that chronic consumption of thermoxidized palm oil is hazardous to health by inducing hepatotoxicity, as seen in increased ALT, AST and total and unconjugated bilirubin and decreased total protein. However, these debilitating effects were seen to be greatly ameliorated following garlic juice and Aloe vera gel administration. If these results are to be extrapolated to humans, then the chronic consumption of thermoxidized palm oil diet should be seriously discouraged.

A wound dressing is very crucial component in wound healing process. Bioactive dressings play important role in wound sterilization and promote tissue healing and growth. The present work investigated the preparation of AgNPs in solid-state using acacia gum as both reductant and stabilizing agent. Sodium hydroxide (NaOH) was employed as activating agent and pH mediator. Acacia is a naturally occurring mixture of polysaccharides and glycoproteins. The obtained particles were in the range of 50 nm. The work was extended to evaluate the antimicrobial of AgNPs treated gauze cotton fabrics against gram positive (S. aureus), gram negative (P. aeruginosa) bacteria, C. albicans (yeast); and A. Niger (fungus). The inhibition zone of the as prepared silver nanoparticles was found to be 24 mm against both types of bacteria, 23 mm against C. albicans (yeast), and inactive against A. Niger (fungus). On the other hand, the treated gauze showed bactericidal behavior and a clear zone was found underneath the samples on the agar plate. The reduction percent in number of bacterial colonies of treated gauze fabrics in comparison to control Pseudomonas aeruginosa culture showed a reduction up to 100%. The aforementioned results promote the acquirement of bioactive antibacterial wound dressing.

Gum Arabic is a natural gummy exudate gained from the trees of Acacia species (Acacia senegal and Acacia seyal), Family: Fabaceae. Gum Arabic considers as a dietary fiber with a high percentage of carbohydrates and low protein content. Sugars arabinose and ribose were originally discovered and isolated from gum Arabic and it is representing the original source of these sugars.
