We found that most high school seniors
intending to attend four-year colleges and
universities as full-time students this fall are
broadly familiar with (and many use) generative
AI tools. Surprisingly, we found that over one-
third of students are using generative AI for
schoolwork, but just a fraction are using it for
their college search efforts (writing essays,
searching for scholarships or calculating
chances of getting into certain schools).
Additionally, and perhaps most intriguingly,
we find that most college-bound students are
concerned about the ethical use of generative
AI tools, and many expect colleges and
universities to educate future students on the
proper utilization of these tools.
