Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) Misconceptions
Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) Misconceptions
I recently saw a video that touched on pathological demand avoidance, also commonly referred to as PDA. Pathological demand avoidance (PDA) is a pattern of behavior in which we go to extremes to ignore or avoid anything they perceive as a demand. Pathological demand avoidance (PDA) is most often seen in people with autism, but certain traits also have been seen with people with ADHD and other sensory processing disorders. In this video I will talk about what PDA is, why it's often searched with ADHD and autism, strategies that can help those with pathological demand avoidance, and what it's like living with PDA. Do you or someone you know live with PDA? Share about your experience in the comments. Here are some signs you might have PDA: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Uq1n8UQ3hc What is high functioning autism? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JxpEQY-yiOk Misunderstandings about autism: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YVCjTpZl98Y 0:30: 🧠 Understanding the challenges of Pathological Demand Avoidance in individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder. 4:11: 💡 Understanding the challenges of individuals with Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) 8:24: 🧠 Understanding Pathological Demand Avoidance and its impact on individuals with sensory processing challenges. 12:59: ⚙️ Strategies to cope with PDA: reverse psychology, preemptive actions, role-playing as a character. 16:23: 🧠 Understanding and managing pathological demand avoidance through creative strategies and autonomy. Why our understanding of attention disorders is changing
Why our understanding of attention disorders is changing
For decades, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) has been treated as a straightforward medical diagnosis, often addressed with prescription stimulants like Ritalin and Adderall. But now, as more than 15 percent of American adolescents receive ADHD diagnoses and prescriptions continue to soar, scientists are reexamining the way we understand and treat this condition. Seven million American children have now received the diagnosis,...

I’m a doctor with ADHD and this is where we’re going wrong
“Do you have time to listen to a poem?” Dr James Kustow, a leading psychiatrist and specialist in ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder), asked on our first introduction. “Erm, yes of course,” I answered, perplexed as to what poetry has to do with the theme of his new book, How to Thrive with Adult ADHD. The poem is titled Systemic Toxicit...

Why we can't focus.
Why we can't focus.
Ive been mostly a long form reader and writer my whole life and only very recently more active on YouTube... and I have seen an *immediate negative change in my attention span as a result. And because of this dopamine addicted era I've never been really able to gain a footing since I mostly read (post) and write things that take time. Which... no one, myself included, has anymore.
