Click here to subscribe - https://www.glutenfreesociety.org/wxrn We know that gluten can contribute to a wide range of complications within the body... but can its effects extend all the way to the brain? Incredibly, yes. Our body’s systems don’t work in isolation. They are all interconnected and one root problem can cascade into a range of reactions throughout the body... such is the case with gluten. When it comes to the brain, there are two mechanisms by which gluten can impact brain function: 1. It can compromise the blood brain barrier - a critical layer that protects the brain from harmful substances. This condition is called Leaky Brain. 2. Gluten-induced nutritional deficiencies can contribute to neurological problems and also impair their repair and healing. In this video, we'll discuss the impacts gluten can have on brain and nerve health, as well as the many downstream effects that compromised brain and nerve function can have on the body. Click here to subscribe - https://www.glutenfreesociety.org/wxrn Take our online gluten sensitivity quiz: https://www.glutenfreesociety.org/gluten-sensitivity-intolerance-self-test/ Gluten Causes Low Thyroid, Slowed Metabolism, Accelerated Aging, & Slow Healing Metabolism is the sum of two things. Metabolism equals catabolism plus anabolism. If these are new words for you, catabolism, these are chemical reactions that break things down, break down where anabolic or anabolism is chemical reactions that build. Remember that your body is in constant breaking down and building mode. So the sum of the quantity of how much you break down old tissue to replace it with new tissue, this is anabolic response and catabolic response. They kind of seesaw back and forth. If you only had reactions that were building you'd get cancer and you die. If you only had reactions that would break you down, your body would do it all the way to nothing. So there's a balance when you have old skin cells, you know, your skin is brand new about every 28 days. So what happens? How do we get rid of old skin cells? We have catabolic reactions that break those old cells down, and then we have anabolic reactions that help to come in and build new skin cells. And that's why when we have a slower metabolism, we actually slow down the body's ability to heal. And it's not just skin. 00:00 - What is metabolism? 03:00 - The autoimmune process 04:27 - Test your gluten sensitivity 05:00 - Two ways gluten causes thyroid disease To connect with Dr. Osborne visit: On the web: https://drpeterosborne.com/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/DoctorPeterO... Click here to subscribe - https://www.glutenfreesociety.org/wxrn What Can Disrupt Digestion & Gut Function? **Medications can have major effects on your taste, smell, digestion, and motility. Some medications can cause dry mouth, disrupt taste and smell, and can make it harder to digest food. Medications can slow down gut motility creating constipation. Antibiotics can wipe out good bacteria in the gut leading to a disruption in immune function, digestion, and neurotransmitter production. Common medications include, SSRI’s, ant-acids, pain medications, and blood pressure drugs. Have a talk with your prescribing doctor about medications to make sure he/she understands your needs. Gluten Can Cause G.I. Problems Grains, the seeds of grasses, and the glutens founds within those seeds are known to cause gastrointestinal inflammation and hinder digestion. Grains can shut your gut down through specialized proteins that target and inhibit your ability to produce digestive enzymes. Be 100% grain free! Follow the No Grain No Pain diet in chapters 7 and 8 of my book. GMO’s Can Trigger Leaky Gut GMO grains have been genetically manipulated to survive better. Some of them produce their own pesticides! Additionally, they are typically doused with pesticides before being planted, and sprayed again right before being harvested. These pesticides and are known to disrupt biochemistry in the G.I. tract. Food Additives Meat glue, AKA – microbial transglutaminase, is used in processed meats, restaurant meats, processed foods, and dairy products. It has been shown to cause inflammation in the gut. Food gums commonly added to milk substitutes (almond milk, coconut milk, etc) can also create gastrointestinal inflammation. Click here to subscribe - https://www.glutenfreesociety.org/wxrn Gluten Gene Testing - HLA-DQ Testing Available here - https://www.glutenfreesociety.org/genetic-testing-for-gluten-sensitivity/ Unfortunately, many are unaware of the connection between gluten and depression. Part of this connection has to do with the role gluten plays in causing intestinal permeability (Leaky Gut). This process was discovered originally by Dr. Fasano. The part less talked about has to do with gluten’s impact on the microbiome (good bacteria in the gut). Studies have shown that gluten can alter the normal bacterial flora, and in doing so set the stage for decreased levels of regulatory gut bacteria, and increased levels of bacteria that contribute to inflammation. When you combine leaky gut with altered bacteria, you get an increased presence of bacteria and their by products in the blood. One type of bacterial byproduct is LPS (lipopolysaccharide). Studies have shown that when this happens, the immune system will produce inflammation trying to combat the presence of these translocated bacteria. This increase inflammation has been shown to alter the function of the brain (Leaky Brain), and a side effect of this is DEPRESSION.
